Chilly Weather May Ruin Your Team Building in
Sydney
Winter has officially arrived in Sydney, bringing with it a bout of cold weather and frost this week. If you are planning a team building inSydney for your employees, you might want to wait till the weather
warms up a little before proceeding with your plans.
The Coldest Temperatures in Years
On Monday, Sydneysiders experienced the coldest May morning in the city in almost
20 years. According to reports, temperatures reached lows of 7.3 degrees
Celsius in Sydney. This is said to be the lowest since 1999.
Folks in Richmond, meanwhile, were greeted by temperatures of -1.7 degrees,
the lowest since 1987, while those in Penrith woke up to their coldest May
morning for the last 20 years at 2 degrees Celsius.
Rob Sharpe, meteorologist at Weatherzone, said Monday’s cold
temperatures was caused by an air mass moving across New South Wales for the
last few days. It also brought the third frost of the season, which is typical when
temperatures at the recording station hit 2 degrees Celsius or less.
If you’re already sick and tired of the cold, you might be happy to find out that
temperatures will get warmer in the coming days. According to Mr Sharpe, the city can
expect warmer minimums of about 11 degrees over the next few days.
However, Richmond will still be substantially colder, with average
temperatures hitting minimums of 6 degrees Celsius.
Aside from the colder temperatures, a larger number of showers across Sydney
are to be expected. Mr Sharpe warned everyone that most of Australia will
experience winter and spring that is wetter than usual.
A Fun and Safe Team Building Experience
While most team building activities take place during summer or autumn because of
fairer weather, it is not unheard of to organise team building during the winter
months.
If you’re planning to hold one this winter, however, make sure that you take extra
caution to ensure the safety of your team. Here are some tips you should consider.
Always check the weather forecastNow that weather is no longer sunny and agreeable for most outdoor activities, it’s best to check the local weather forecast first before you plan anything. After all, it
can be quite disappointing if your event will be ruined by a sudden downpour.
Always make safety your priorityBe sure to avoid any extreme activity that
may endanger the health and safety of your employees or team members. Otherwise, it
may place your company at the risk of being sued.
Ensure that there is someone trained at giving first aid
Whether you’re holding team building activities indoors or outdoors, always make sure that there is someone knowledgeable
at first aid accompanying you. This way, you can minimise the risk of someone
having serious injuries in case there is an accident.
Set up a medical tentWhen doing a Sydney Amazing Race or any other type of team building activity, make sure that you set up a make-shift
medical station. Put up a tent or cabin with a least one cot where team members can
rest and receive medical care when needed.
