“Mentors” and “Role Models” are Different

It’s great to have people that you can look up to in your career, but these role models are different than formal mentors.

Better to use your boss as a role model

Look for someone in your field Can expose you to people of influence in your field

Test the waters Unsure, ask the individual if they are willing to help

Don’t be afraid to ask It’s a compliment to be asked and if they decline
