BETHEL WEEKLY NEWS
CHILDREN ARE
WELCOMED AT BETHEL!
Parents will find bags of soft
toys for children at the en-
trance to the worship areas.
Thank you for doing what you
can to help in creating a wor-
ship environment where all
can participate by keeping
distracting noise and move-
ment to a minimum. If you
prefer, a nursery is available
Sunday mornings at the
Highlands campus (9:30 am).
BAPTIZED Receiving the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on Sunday at the 9:30 am service are Emmett Theodore Smith and Sawyer Lincoln Smith, twin sons of Jamie & Jason Smith; and at the 11 am service, Wyatt Henry Evers, son of Kimberly & Jeffrey Evers.
CAN YOU HELP US WITH A SPECIAL OFFERING TODAY FOR EARTHQUAKE RELIEF IN NEPAL? We are taking a special offering at each of our four services this weekend to help with the devastation from the earthquake, and aftershocks, in Nepal. We will be directing our dollars through Lutheran World Relief, a stel-lar relief organization that is usually the first to show up and the last to leave when disasters occur around the world.
Please use the LWR envelope we’re providing, but it will help us if you make your check out to Bethel Lutheran Church, and mark in Nepal/LWR. We don’t take special offerings very often, but this is one of those situations in the world where we feel compelled to share the love of Christ, and time is of the essence! Thanks for your generosity, concern and help today!
SPECIAL SERVICE: NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER Please plan to join us for a community service THIS Thursday, May 7th, 7 pm at the Highlands campus for a special community service. Bethel mem-ber, Jamie Johnson will speak.
GRAB THOSE PAILS & PRUNERS! The annual spring clean-up day at the Downtown campus will be held NEXT Saturday, May 9 from 8 am until noon. Please bring cleaning sup-plies and equipment for window washing, lawn clean-up, shrub trimming, etc.
HEALTHY CONGREGATIONS, A 2-WEEK CLASS What makes for healthy and functional relationships? What are those behav-iors and habits that tend to poison and undermine health and vitality? And what makes for a healthy, functioning and God-honoring church?
These are the very practical things we’ll be discussing through scripture, vid-eos, and real life examples. Your input and ideas are important as we lay the groundwork for preserving a healthy congregation in a day and age of incivil-ity, divisiveness, and division all around us in our world. Join Pastor John in the children’s theater at the Highlands campus NEXT Wednesday eve-ning, May 13 and May 20th from 7-8:30 pm. (This is the same class that was offered back during the coldest week in January when most of us dared not wander out in the frigid weather! Come on out now that the weather has turned around!) It will be an interesting and fun time, and your ideas, experiences and input are welcomed!

HEALING MINISTRIES PRAYER God of strength and endurance, thank you for the many loved ones I hold dear in my heart. But right now, I am grieving the loss of one beloved; while providing hope and healing to another. I must say, I am physically exhausted and emotionally drained. As I pray for my loved ones, I trust you are with me even in my weakened human condition. Please give me the wisdom and strength to endure in a way that brings glory to your name. I can do every-thing through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
THANK YOU Heartfelt thanks to Bethel members for their cards, messages of support, prayers and hugs during the recent death of Doreen's mother, Betty Larsen and Randy's mother, Betty Deal-Ross. A special thank you to Mayelva and Ron Rimer for their help in arranging for their son, Ken Rimer, to sing at Betty Deal-Ross's memorial service—a special request from Betty. We are so grate-ful for all your support. God bless you all. ~ Doreen & Randy Deal

It is a three-day spiritual renewal movement that over 50 Bethel mem-bers have experienced. Over 17,000 Lutheran Christians in the Metro area have attended. During each weekend, 15 rollos (lectures) are given, plus there are lots of fun activities. Most rollos are presented by lay people, five by pas-tors. It is very inspirational!!
You can pick up an application at either Bethel welcome center for this sum-mer’s sessions (to be held at St. Phillip’s Lutheran Church in Fridley, MN). Men’s weekend is June 4-7, women’s weekend, June 11-14.
There is no cost to attend. Meals are provided and attendees sleep at the host church. Bethel member, Steve Heilmann is assistant rector. Please call the Lewises, the Martinsons or the Heilmanns if you’d like to find out more about Via de Cristo.
