Connect Card… New Connect Cards can be found in your bulletin. Because the Synod records how many people have participated in Holy Communion each calendar year, we ask that members completely fill out a card at least once per year and anytime their contact information has changed. You can place the card in the offering plate. Any unused cards may be placed with your bulletin at the back of the Sanctuary after service. Luther and the Reformation… Want to learn more about this pivotal event in history during this 500 th anniversary year? On two Sunday evenings during Lent, March 19 and April 2, Bethel will show at 6:30 p.m. in the Heritage Room the hour long film: Rick Steves’ Luther and the Reformation. Discover more fully the footsteps of Martin Luther, the chaos of the Reformation, and the larger political, economic, and theological context that was unfolding. There will be padded chairs, popcorn, and beverages, too! A good read for Lent… “Addicted to Hurry: Spiritual Strategies for Slowing Down” by Kirk Byron Jones. In this book, Jones looks at the “need for speed” mentality that so many people have embraced. He includes spiritual perspectives on the dangers of letting hurry become a chronic condition and offers creative exercises for understanding hurry’s hold on us. 12 copies of the book will initially be available in the church office beginning Wednesday, March 8 at a cost of $10. Lent 2017… Ash Wednesday began on March 1 with Holy Communion and Imposition of Ashes worship. As we celebrate 500 years in 2017 since Martin Luther started The Reformation, the Lenten theme at Bethel this year is “Always Re-Forming: The “But” of the Ten Commandments.” This preaching series will begin on Sunday, March 5, and will encompass the Lenten Sundays and Wednesdays with the pastors and lay leaders sharing the messages. Weekly inserts will accompany the Sunday bulletin during Lent and Easter detailing the significant history of the Reformation from 500 years ago through today. Lenten Wednesdays we will sing both “Holden Evening Prayer” and a newer liturgy especially for Lent also composed by Marty Haugen entitled, “That You May Have Life.” The Lenten season is a holy time for being moved by God in re- forming faith- and life-ways that might bring what God sees is most needful and good in this time of your life. Always re-forming.
