1 Dear Bethany Bible Church, Unbelievably, 2020 is now upon us! It’s hard to fathom that a new decade has come, leaving the 2010s behind. Wasn’t it just recently that (it seems!) we were hearing news reports about the world’s crash and crisis with the so-called Y2K phenonenom of the decade- changeover year of 2000? We all braced for worldwide calamity, which came in with such bold predictions of doom and then entered with only a whimper? And wasn’t it just yesterday (again, or so it seems!) that 2010 was ushering in a brand new dimension of our lives, complete with great hopes and aspirations? And now, today— January 1st, 2020, we are embarking upon another brand new decade of excitement and expectation? Within our own family—in just about 10 years—we were relocating in ministry back to California from Arkansas (2011), and by January 1st, 2015, we were starting Thousand Oaks Bible Church. And in a flash, just under two years later, we were combining in 2016 with Bethany Church on the Hill and then The Bridge Church of Moorpark in 2018 to now become Bethany Bible Church in 2019! When you look back on your own life and see clearly God’s great faithfulness over the previous decade, will you not see such tangible evidence for God’s faithfulness for 2020 and if our LORD tarries, perhaps even decades beyond? Given these precious realities and so much more, and for all of us on the staff of Bethany Bible Church, I want to thank you for your generosity to us from the bottom of our hearts. As a body of believers, you have taken wonderful care of us who serve you as a paid ministry staff, including your wonderful financial support of us and our respective families. We therefore extend to you our sincere gratitude as our local church family for your commitment to Christ and for the hopeful expectation of another year, and perhaps decade, of service and ministry. May our gracious Heavenly Father providentially bless us and keep us in His love and grace for all our appointed days ahead! Bethany Bible Church, in coordination with Camarillo's California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Department of Juvenile Justice Chaplain, Jacob Matchak, will conduct an evening church service with music and the Word at the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility (VYCF) on January 26

th. Our goal is to bring all

of our Bethany Bible Church family together with the saints at VYCF for an evening worship service led by our own beloved Pastor Lance Quinn.

This is a very rare and unique opportunity the Lord has provided for our church to offer up praise and worship to the Lord Jesus Christ in a state-funded correctional facility!

Everyone seeking to enter the facility will need to complete a clearance form with their name, date of birth, SSN, and driver's

license number. Please visit the table in the church foyer and fill out a form on January 5th or email your

information to [email protected] on or before January 10th.

January 19 Alexander Strauch was raised in New Jersey and converted to Christ at a Bible camp in New York State. He received his undergraduate degree from Colorado Christian University and went on to earn

his Master of Divinity degree from Denver Seminary. He has for over forty years served as an elder at Littleton Bible Chapel near Denver, Colorado. He has taught philosophy and New Testament literature at Colorado Christian University. He is a gifted Bible teacher and speaker who has taught in more than 25 countries and helped thousands of churches worldwide through his expository writing ministry. He is the author of Biblical Eldership, The New Testament Deacon, Men and Women: Equal Yet Different, The Hospitality Commands, Agape Leadership (with Robert L. Peterson), Meetings That Work, Leading with Love, Love or Die: Christ’s Wake-up Call to the Church and If You Bite and Devour One Another. Alex and his wife, Marilyn, reside in Littleton, Colorado, near their four adult daughters and eleven grandchildren.

10:30 AM March 1

Tim Keesee is the founder and executive director of Frontline Missions International, which has served to advance the gospel in some of the world’s most difficult places

for over twenty-five years. He has traveled to more than eighty countries, reporting on the church from the former Iron Curtain countries to war-torn Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Keesee is the executive producer of the DVD documentary series Dispatches from the Front.

In a June 10, 2019, Crossway Podcast, interviewer Matt Tully asked Tim Keesee what was one of the most encouraging, awesome things he’d seen in his travels over the years that testifies to God’s power in the way that He’s moving and surprising and amazing in glorious ways? Keesee’s response was:

I think of just a panorama of brothers and sisters that I have met who came out of dark religion and were converted, changed, born again. And in some cases they were persecutors of the Way, just like Paul. And now they are proclaimers of the Word—powerful proclaimers, bold proclaimers. And so through their lives I’m just reminded once again that Christ is alive. And he is bringing people to himself and the new birth is a radical inside work of Christ that is made to last. I think it's not a single event, but just one person after another I’ve seen in their face and in their ministry, this radical transformation of the gospel.

Why Biblical Discipleship Counseling Training?

Taking this course will . . .

Increase your confidence in the sufficiency and relevancy of God’s Word to address real-life issues. (2 Tim 3:16; 2 Peter 1:3)

Promote personal change centered on the person of Christ through the relationally rich, personal ministry of the Word. (1 Thes. 2:7-8; 11-12)

Teach you how to identify idols of your own heart and how God’s Word can take deeper root to bring about needed change. (2 Cor. 5:9; Col 3:16)

Help the body of Christ to be built up as we learn to speak gospel truth in love to one another. (Ephesians 4:15)

Biblical Counseling IS Discipleship!

Biblical discipleship counseling emphasizes a vision for the entire church that not only impacts one another but also the surrounding community. God calls and equips the church to be not simply a place with biblical counseling, but a place of biblical counseling. While it is true that formal counseling is required when struggles of sin and suffering reach a point of crisis, informal counseling occurs all the time. Since we are all counselors, to one degree or another, it is important to understand that our ‘counseling’ – whether to self or to others - is only as good as our theology. This training is designed to support and assist church members—both pastors and lay members—who desire to strengthen their effectiveness in helping those who suffer and/or falter in their church and neighborhood communities, by providing biblical hope and change.

Early bird discount is available through January 15, 2020! Register online at oneeightycounseling.com.

Sarah’s House was established in March of 1991. It is a Christian program for homeless expectant and single mothers.

Their programs are designed to establish and promote a sense of responsibility in the women who reside with them. Programs include weekly counseling, classes on nutrition, birthing, financial management, adoption, home safety, single parenting, infant care, cooking and crafts. All classes are taught by a combination of lay volunteers and professionals.

The goal of Sarah’s House is to provide residents with the tools to begin a new life, headed in a positive direction. Each woman is guided through a series of programs which introduces them to new problem solving techniques and prepares them to begin making positive choices for their lives. Most importantly, Sarah’s House seeks to show these women the love of Jesus Christ through their love and acceptance for them.

Sarah’s House is financially supported solely through donations from churches, individuals, fundraising, and civic organizations in the greater Conejo, Simi and San Fernando Valleys as well as other surrounding areas.

With Titus 2:3-5 as our guide, our desire is to equip women to pass on the legacy of biblical womanhood to the next generation.

This is God’s good and beautiful plan, the biblical model of older women living out the gospel and training younger women to do the same, of younger women recognizing the value of older women in their lives—of women adorning the gospel together. Living our lives as Titus 2 women enables us to fulfill the purpose for which we were created. It helps our families and churches to flourish and the beauty of the gospel

to shine forth in our world. This is Christian community as God designed it.

Join us as we look to God’s Word for His perspective on the character, commitments, and attitudes of godly women—and His prescribed process for helping us live out these virtues not only today, but from generation to generation.

Using Nancy D. Wolgemuth’s book, Adorned, the Women's Titus 2 Discipleship Group will meet on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:45 pm. Upcoming meeting dates: January 28 and February 25.

The Book of Hebrews Study Why Hebrews?

Hebrews helps us understand the overall story of the Bible: the scope of redemptive history, how it all led to Christ, and how Christ fulfilled it all. As you study the book of Hebrews, you will see that the Old Testament was fulfilled by Jesus Christ in the New Testament and the superiority of Christ – his glory, his honor, and his divinity — above all things.

Join us beginning the week of January 13, 2020, as we discover how Hebrews unlocks the glorious tapestry of God’s progressive revelation.

Toddlers [Walkers—3 Years] We welcome our toddlers with free play to ease the transition into the classroom. Our curriculum aims to train young children how to sit during a brief Bible story and participate in songs that teach biblical truths.

Cry Room / Training Area Located in our nursery lobby, we have live-streaming of the sermon and comfortable seating for any parent wishing to keep their little one with them during church.

FAMILY HOUR

The FAMILY HOUR ministry intentionally works together as families—helping one another grow and disciple our children in preparation for the next generation of Christ followers.

1) Fellowship among the families (parents and their children).

The weekly meeting encourages discipleship and accountability among families. We learn from one another; whether it is parent-to-parent or parent-to-other children and vice versa.

2) Teach the children about God, His word, and how to apply biblical truths in our daily lives.

Parents learn together with their children and reinforce at home what was taught on Sunday. Therefore, families can connect with each other about what they are learning from God during the week and on Sundays.  Sharing God's word within the family is a key emphasis of FAMILY HOUR. Sometimes the topic involves parenting which may be new and targeted toward the parents.

3) Men learn to lead and disciple their families.

FAMILY HOUR is designed to be a model of worship, teaching, prayer, and discussion for fathers/parents to practice daily with their families at home.

Each week, fathers or young men take turns preparing and teaching the weekly lesson.  The younger men are discipled by the older men so that the upcoming generation learns how to spiritually lead their family in the future. Parents also rotate leading Bible-related games and crafts.

Join us for fellowship, worship, Bible study, and family fun!

"For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the

saints have been refreshed through you," The Apostle Paul to Philemon - Philemon 1:7.

So many are faithfully interceding for Beth Quinn in prayer. Knowing the Father is being appealed to by His people on her behalf is an incredible encouragement to Beth's heart!

A Special Email Address

If you would like to write a note to Beth expressing your love for her, testifying of her devotion to the Savior that blesses all those around her, and for her ministry in your life and in the life of our church, we have a special email for this purpose: [email protected]

As she is able, Beth will read the emails and we trust God that her heart will be refreshed by the words of His people and the testimony of God's grace seen in her life and ministry.

Special Notes

Lance will continue providing updates about Beth's treatments and prayer requests via Facebook and the church website. Because many letters may be received, Beth may not be able to respond to each. Pray that every letter will be a fountain of joy to Beth and ultimately bring Jesus Christ worship and glory.

Beth is feeling stronger and is currently planning and preparing meals for her family. However, should the need arise for meals in the future, we’ll be sure to let you know! To help with medical expenses, please make your contributions at:

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Jim Hines: (805) 320-1780 or [email protected].
