BETA Makeup Application Order

2017 Competition Season Always start with a freshly cleansed face. Due to the face that the eye shadows tend to spill onto the girls’ cheeks, it is a good idea to begin with the eyes before the rest of the face in case you need to wipe away shimmer! Any item with ** preceding it is an optional step depending on what you purchased from the ‘recommended but not required’ list. See the bottom of this document for a ‘drawing’ example. TO BE APPLIED BEFORE LEAVING HOME: EYES

1. **Eye Shadow Primer (or regular face primer) all over lids (and lightly on brows).

2. Blend foundation onto eyes-lid up to the brow. 3. While that sets, fill in eyebrows with similar shade of eye

shadow to hair color to make them more visible on stage. (**If you purchased the recommended eyebrow filler, start with light strokes with the pencil side to fill in and even out brows, then use powder side to finish.)

4. Starting on the far left side of the eye shadow palette, use the WHITE aka #1 to highlight underneath their eyebrows

(where there is already natural highlight).

5. Use the next color over (light beige/tan) aka #2 to fill the

area just above their natural eyelid crease, below where you applied #1.

6. Slide over to color #6 from the left-swipe over the entire eyelid, do not go above the crease.

7. Slide one more to color #7-using a small eye shadow brush, carefully swipe in their natural crease, just above the lid, starting where their eyelashes begin all the way to the outside edge of the lashes. Add a pea-sized amount to the right 1/4 of their lid. Using a rounded blending brush, blend the edge/crease line so that it is smooth and not harsh. When they open their eyes, you should be able to see some of the crease color just above the lid.

8. Using a small, thin, eye shadow brush, apply #5 to the under eye just below the lash-line from the outer edge of the eye 3/4 of the way in-do NOT go all the way to tear duct! (NO EYELINER) Yes-I forgot to circle #5 in pink on the photo-oops!

9. Using black eye liner (**Feel free to use an angled brush in black eye shadow, dip the brush in water first!) line the upper lid in short strokes starting on the inside, closest to the tear duct (do not go all the way down into the duct,

though-it often clumps). Start thin and as close to their lash line as possible, making the line slightly thicker on the outside edge (do not go past the end of their lid, aka no cat eye). NO EYELINER ON BOTTOM.

10. (**Next, curl their lashes with an eyelash curler.) Use the black mascara from your kit-start with the bottom lashes first to avoid getting smudges on the lid! Have your student look up with their eyes and swipe onto their bottom lashes. For the top, have them put their chin up and look down a bit so you can swipe onto the top lashes. Utilize the curve of the brush to help lift their lashes. FACE: 1. Use makeup wipes to wipe away any eye shadow residue

underneath eyes and apply moisturizer if they have dry skin.

2. **Apply face primer 3. Apply foundation all over face and neck, blend well. 4. **If they have dark circles under their eyes, apply the

recommended light concealer where needed and blend. 5. Apply blush from your kit with a large blush brush,

keeping away from apples of cheeks and instead: have student make a “fish face” and apply just under cheekbones up into hairline.

6. Using a large bronzer brush, apply bronzer to areas that usually receive more sun: middle of forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin, then apply a small amount to the rest of face and neck. **FOR BLONDES-apply extra bronzer or ‘brown’ contour powder to hairline and blend well!

7. Spray setting spray or apply setting powder.

HAIR: 1. Make sure hair is NOT CLEAN. 24 hours before show

time, do not was hair! It will hold better. (**If your student has naturally greasier hair after not washing, use recommended DRY SHAMPOO.)

2. If hair has a hard time holding or student has ‘baby hairs’ or ‘fly-aways’ around face or neck, use gel prior to putting up.

3. Brush/Pull up into a HIGH Ponytail-we should be able to see the hair band from the front when looking straight-on (judges sit lower so we want them visible!). HAIR MUST BE STRAIGHT! IF YOUR STUDENT HAS CURLY OR WAVY HAIR, PLEASE STRAIGHTEN PRIOR TO STYLING!

4. Wrap hair accessory AROUND hair band (do not use as primary hair band!)

5. Apply hairspray! LOTS! TO BE APPLIED AT VENUE JUST BEFORE I TAKE THEM BACKSTAGE: FACE:

1. **Apply lip liner if you have it-be sure it matches! 2. Apply lipstick. 3. Apply White eye shadow aka #1 to tear duct area (to make

eyes look more open and alert!) 4. Touch up any other points that have faded or that I may ask

to be adjusted. 5. Apply more setting spray or powder. 6. Apply more hairspray and check to be sure hairpiece is

visible and secure.
