Least ount is a %ery important concept, introduced to properly measure t"e reading from

a measuring tool, like ernier alipers, *ra%elling +icroscope, uler a meter, like car's

speedometer, ammeter, %oltmeter, etc -o it's a concept that'll help you not only in

your theoretical life, but also ractically, in your e%eryday life. earning andunderstanding it is utter.

east #ount tells you the minimum reading or %alue that can be measured with

a measuring tool or de%ice.

0enerally, simply multiplying Least ount wit" t"e numer of di%isions (like in ruler) or

fraction of di%isions (like in ernier alipers), we get our answer in t"e units specified 1or

ample, 23 di%isions in a uler would mean 23 cm or 23 mm Least count of a ruler is 43

cm or 3 mm (we'll understand "ow to find it, later in t"is article)

The way I like to make it understandable is related to the definition of east

#ount itself. emember, east #ount gi%es you the minimum %alue that can be

you could e%en take other %alues like : 9 cm 1 98 ;.

9"ile calculating, we used 24 di%isions .ow 34, 24, F4, E4, etc are numers t"at can e

easily dealt wit" practically, rat"er t"an numers like 3F, 3G, 2G, etc

ount ecomes "andy ;ou can simply multiply 2F wit" 43 cm (t"e Least ount) $ get t"eanswer 2F cm

.ow, ernier alipers, is similar to ruler, ut a little more comple# and can gi%e more

specific results *"e accuracy of ernier alipers is muc" more t"an ruler, as t"e former

can gi%e results upto two decimal places (in case of centimeters), w"ereas t"e uler can

only gi%e upto 3

.ow let's talk aout w"at's t"e Least ount of ernier alipers and "ow to find it

In case of ruler, t"ere was only 3 scale w"ic" ga%e us t"e readings, so we straig"t away could

use Unitary met"od on t"at 7ut in ernier alipers, t"ere are 2 scales, called
