• Telangana is the 29th state of India, formed on the 2nd of June 2014. The state has an area of 1,12,077 Sq. Km. and has a population of 3,50,03,674. The Telangana region was part of the Hyderabad state from Sept 17th 1948 to Nov 1st 1956, until it was merged with Andhra state to form the Andhra Pradesh state.

1) The newly-formed state of Telangana is big enough to be the world’s 33rd largest country.

2) The demand for Telangana was as old as the state of Andhra Pradesh, which was cread in 1956.

4)About 77 per cent of the people of Telangana speak Telugu, 12 per cent speak Urdu while 11 per cent speak other languages.

5)The Osmania University was the

epicenter of the Telangana movement. It

was established in 1918 and is named after the last Nizam.

5)The total area of the state is 1.14 lakh square kilometres, which makes it the 12th largest in India. This makes Andhra Pradesh the 6th largest state after the division. Earlier, it was ranked 4th.

6) Telangana will have 17 Lok Sabha seats and 119 assembly seats.

1.Suresh Venapally

• Suresh Venapally is an Indian mathematician known for his research work in algebra. He is a professor at Emory University.

• Suresh was born in Vangoor, Telangana, India and studied in ZPHS at Vangoor up to 9th standard. He did his M.Sc at University of Hyderabad. He joined Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in 1989 and got his PhD in under the guidance of Raman Parimala(1994). He later joined the faculty at [University of Hyderabad].

2.Lakkoju Sanjeevaraya Sharma

• Lakkoju Sanjeevaraya Sharma November 1907 – 02 December 1998) was an Indian mathematician. He gave many mathematical Avadhanams (Ganitavadhanams), educated people and surprised the elite.

• Sharma was born at Kalluru village of Proddatur mandal in Cuddapahdistrict. His parents were Lakkoju Pedda Pullaiah and Nagamamba. He was born blind and had no formal education. He married Adilakshmamma at 19. He learnt mathematics when his sister recited what she learnt at school at home.

• Sharma gave his first performance at Andhra Mahasabha at Nandyalaon 15 November 1928, chaired by Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was invited to New Delhi by Jawaharlal Nehru and performed before President Rajendra Prasad along with other dignitaries. He traveled widely and gave about 7,000 performances in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Delhi. One of his most memorable performances was on 7 December 1966 at Sri Krishna DevarayaAndhra Bhasha Nilayam. He received many gold medals, honors and felicitations.

• Sharma prepared an Indian Calendar extending 4,000 years.

• Sharma was invited to visit the United States in 1993 by the Telugu community. He could not attend due to visa problems. Sri Venkateswara University honored him with a doctorate in 1996.

• Sharma completed his life at Srikalahasti. He played the violin every evening at Kalahasteswara temple for an honorarium from the Devasthanam authorities.
