And here you have it: Tipton Coun-ty's best of the best. This is the edition The Leader publishes each year that rec-ognizes the businesses and people the readers of The Leader selected as being tops in their categories.

Here's how it works: For a month, The Leader runs a full page ballot for its readers to fill out. On this ballot are 98 categories and readers are required to take an original ballot (not a copy) and fill it out and submit it. Some people fill out all categories. Some folks skip cat-egories and only vote in their favorite few.

At the end of the voting period, The Leader collects the ballots and counts them. The winners are selected based on total votes. It's really that simple.

The Leader doesn't make any claim that any one business or individual is better than another. We only recognize that certain businesses and individuals got the most votes from the readers. This is the result of their votes, plain and sim-

ple. The top vote-getter is named to first place in the category, the second vote-getter gets second place and so forth. In the case of a tie vote, there is a tie for the position. Again, the winners are named exclusively as a result of reader voting.

Still, we think the winners have re-ceived a prestigious award. In order to get the most votes (which requires action on the part of others), you have to inspire action. You have to be good enough to make people want you to win. They have to go through the effort of filling out a ballot and returning it to our office to acknowledge those they feel are deserving. And that requires be-ing good.

We thank all our readers who voted and we congratulate all winners, past and present. And for those who didn't win, we wish you good luck in the fu-ture as you find the fan base to make you tops in your category.
