HST-D-V2-1 - edition: 15.09.00 BESI produces the double-acting hydraulic actuator HSTP-D. The actuator has benefit from the high oil- pressure level – 100 up to 135 bar, on request up to 160 bar – and thus offers small overall dimensions. It may be installed at any place – submerged below medium, in dry spaces, on deck, and in hazardous areas. Available as double-acting ¼-turn and linear actuator it needs 2 hydraulic supply pipes. For easy installation we recommend endless pipes (8 x 0.5 stainless steel) from coil, preferably bundled pipes, comprising 2 or a multiple of 2 hydraulic lines. Torque The ¼-turn double-acting actuators provide continuous torque over the full swivel range, due to the transmission of hydraulic pressure via “rack and pinion”. Position Response Valve position indication is effected via limit switches mounted externally to the actuator, or by volume transmitters with reed contacts installed inside the central control unit – which may be the solenoid valve cabinet. The volume transmitters provide an inexpensive signal transmission, but very precise and reliable, and eliminates the need for additional cabling to the valves. This concept is type-approved by Germanischer Lloyd and accepted by all major classification societies. Even 0 to 100%-indication is achievable, realized with a potentiometer device. Medium Failure Double-acting actuators suffer from an inexact position in case of failure of the control medium, i.e. the valve position may change in an uncontrollable manner. To avoid this, optional controlled double-check valves in control blocks directly fitted to the actuator or nearby will prevent any change in the valve position, when without control power. Emergency Operation The actuators can be equipped with quick couplings for connection to a portable manual pump. Actuators under medium will have their control blocks for manual control arranged outside of the tanks, connected by hydraulic piping. Selection Double–acting hydraulic actuators HSTP-D are very economic in price. They should be applied for all cases where continuous control 0% - 100% will be required, as in pump or stripping circuits etc.. Further in all other systems where the actual state has to be maintained even at lack of power. If such conditions are not mandatory they should only be selected for short distances between the control station and the valve, as the cost for the second supply pipe will be in tough competition to the unit price for a spring-return actuator together with it´s single-line installation cost.
