Bereavement Support Project Practitioner (Children and Young People) To provide bereavement support in Bristol and the surrounding area

Role purpose:
This post will take the lead and be responsible for making positive links within the Bristol area to ensure that we are reaching as many Children and Young people as possible. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that information required by the funders is available.
This role delivers structured bereavement support directly to children and young people though
a range of channels including remote, digital and face-to-face from our offices, in community
venues and (when appropriate or required) through home visits across the UK.
It is an active and involved member of a multi-disciplinary team and contributes to all aspects
of Winston’s Wish work to help us achieve our strategic goals and work towards achieving our
vision.
Key responsibilities
Ensure the safety and well-being of our service users through adherence to the
organisation’s safeguarding policy and practices
Assess the support requirements of each referral according to Winston’s Wish support
processes and outcomes framework
Provide psychological, emotional and practical support to children and young people that is
equitable and inclusive in line with Winston’s Wish support processes, service-related
policy and procedures and recording systems. This involves working in remote, digital and
face-to-face contexts
Effectively manage a mixed caseload of children and young people delivering a ‘blended’
range of support services
Maintain accurate records and for the delivery and effectiveness of support provided
through complying with the organisation’s recording and reporting requirements
Maintain partnerships with schools and other community-based providers as part of the
support provided, where appropriate
Deliver/facilitate digital and/or locality bereavement or social groups, attending any locality
group or ‘drop-ins’ as directed
Participate in regular group bereavement supervision sessions
Liaise (and develop professional relationships) with other agencies or professionals and
make referrals as appropriate, contributing to joined up support surrounding a child, young
person and family. This includes attending networking events and (where appropriate)
delivering training
Work as a member of the Winston’s Wish team, promoting best practice and contributing to
the work of others across the organisation
Continuing Professional Development, Supervision and Support
Induction to Winston’s Wish and regular in-house professional development
Bereavement supervision and line management providing direction, support and case de-
briefing
Access to independent bereavement supervision for support around working with
bereavement
Development goals agreed annually within the objective-setting process that will include
training requirements

Relevant professional qualification in working with children and young people – for
example: counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, education, social work or health
Registration with a relevant professional body (D)
At least three years’ experience and knowledge of working with and providing services to
children, young people and families in a health, social care, youth, community or education
setting
Experience of providing face-to-face/remote support (or service delivery) within a multi-
disciplinary context including partnership working with other agencies
Experience of providing support to children and and/or young people in individual and
group settings with the ability to deliver support through remote (including digital) channels
Further professional training in working with children and young people and an
understanding of developmental issues
Demonstrable experience of safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults
and an ability to practice in a way that promotes this
Understanding of, and the ability to be at ease with, the experience and consequences of
bereavement in childhood
Demonstrable ability to work within a system of support, effectively managing a caseload
and maintaining an accurate and confidential system of records
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to confidently build and
maintain good relationships with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and ages.
Committed and flexible in approach, including with hard to reach children, young people
and families and those living in adversity or having experienced trauma
Emotional maturity, stability and resilience with a strong commitment to self-care and the
ability to seek support and guidance when difficulties arise in the course of work
Excellent organisational skills and a ‘can do’ attitude
Salary £32,029
25 days’ holiday pro rata, plus bank holidays
