CAMP BANKBOOKS NEW THIS YEAR! If your child will be attending a Christian based camp, they can earn money towards that camp by doing a Bankbook!

A few requirements: 1. Must be a Christian based camp. 2. Camp must be approved by Pastor Spencer. 3. Camps must be a “sleep there” type camp—

not day camps. (Family camps included). 4. This is solely for children 1st-5th grade whose

family considers Berean their home church. (See Bankbook for additional guidelines)

Bankbooks are available downstairs at the table near the couch. Start earning money towards camp by attending on Sundays and Wednesdays, doing projects, bringing friends, and more!

WHAT DEFINES SIN? MATTHEW 18:15 “If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over.” “Sin is any failure to conform to the moral law of God in act, attitude, or nature.” Wayne Gruden - Systematic Theology While sin is ultimately against God, Psalm 51:4 “Against you (God), you only, have I sinned,” we can and do sin against other people. In Exodus 20:12-17, the last 6 of the 10 Commandments are people to people transgressions. Sin does not necessarily occur every time you make someone feel bad, hurt their feelings, or fail to meet their standard. Proverbs 27:6 “Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.” WHO IS RESPONSIBLE TO INITIATE THE RECONCILIATION EFFORT? The ____________ Matthew 5:23-24 “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. 1. What are some potential causes of conflict?

Can you think of other causes? Think or your family, school, work, and church. 2. What is the difference between hurt and harm? Hebrews 12:7-13 Proverbs 27:6

“There is a big difference between hurt and harm. We all hurt sometimes in facing hard truths, but it makes us grow. It can be the source of huge growth. That is not harmful. Harm is when you damage someone. Facing reality is usually not a damaging experience, even though it can hurt.” — Henry Cloud

Why is it important to make the distinction? What impact does the distinction have on the reconciliation process? 3. What is the definition of reconciliation? (look it up in a dictionary) Romans 5:9-11 2 Corinthians 5:16-21 How important is reconciliation to God? John 17:11 How important does God think it is for us? Romans 12:18 & 14:19; Psalms 133:1-3 4. “Genuine Biblical Reconciliation only occurs when there is genuine deep repentance and genuine deep forgiveness.” — Pastor Mike What do you think? How does this square with how and when sinful people are reconciled with the holy God? 5. Notice the increasing circles of knowledge and involvement presented in Matthew 18:15-19. Why is this important?

“Knowledge of the Sin Should be Kept to the Smallest Group Possible: This seems to be the purpose in Matthew 18:15-17 behind the gradual progression from a private meeting, to a meeting with two or three others, to telling the

entire church. The fewer people who know about some sin, the better, because repentance is easier, fewer people are led astray, and less harm is done to the reputation of the person, the reputation of the church, and the reputation of Christ.” — Wayne Grudem

6. Note the importance that the witnesses have in the sequence of movement to the next step. What is the role of the “two or three witnesses?” Matthew 18:16-17 Deuteronomy 19:15 7. How did Jesus treat pagans and tax collectors? Mathew 9:11; 11:19; Luke 15:1-2 What is the difference between the pagans and tax collectors that Jesus associated with and the individuals being discussed in Mathew 18:15-17? What is similar in both scenarios? Galatians 6:1; Ephesians 4:15; John 13:34-35 8. Share a time when you were involved in this process? How did it go How does the outcome impact your commitment to follow the instruction given by the Lord Jesus? Why do you think the use of this process is more the exception than the normal practice?
