Grendel is a monster who wanders Hrothgar's Kingdom and terrorizes the Danes. The news of Grendel's attacks reaches Higlac, King of the Geats. So, a young, Geat warrior named Beowulf decides to take the challenge and heads towards Denmark. King Hrothgar gives Beowulf and his small army a warm welcome and leave them in Herot for the night. That night, Beowulf watches Grendel attack and eat one of his men. Beowulf fights Grendel without any weapons and manages to take his arm off. Grendel then retreats to his swamp to die. This angers Grendel's mom who then tries to seek revenge for her son's death. She kills one of Hrothgar‘s best advisors and the kingdom is once again threatened. Beowulf then goes to Grendel's mother's underwater lair to fight. After a bloody fight he manages to kill her with a giant’s sword. He cuts Grendel's head back and brings it back as a souvenir of his victory. Beowulf leaves for Geatland and the Danes are once again happy and they enjoy a life without fear. Then one day a thief disturbs a great dragon that is guarding a lot of treasure. Old Beowulf takes it upon himself to go kill the dragon. During the battle Beowulf is defeated and named Wiglaf his successor for staying behind.
