Ohio Valley Region has some exciting events coming up to satisfy the need to exercise your car and socialize!

April is here. Warmer weather makes us all excited to drive our cars, get out-side and enjoy the company of our friends at social gatherings. Ohio Val-

ley Region has some exciting events coming up to satisfy our need to exercise our cars and socialize!

On Saturday, April 15 we are hosting a free Driv-er Education 101 course. This two-hour session will answer many questions and provide informa-tion about our Driver Education events. Coffee and donuts will be served.

Exciting Upcoming Events

April 15 - Driver Education 101April 22 - Spring Driving TourMay 6 - First Autocross event of the year at Kentucky SpeedwayMay 12 - Annual Wine TastingJune 9 thru 11 - Annual Spring Driver Education program at Mid-Ohio.July 7 thru July 9 - Club Race and Driver Education program for advanced drivers at Putnam Park

Up to date information on your club and OVR events can be found on our website at http://ovr-pca.org/. Registration is currently open for all of these driving events. Visit www.clubregistration.net to sign up while spots are still available.

Please don’t forget our monthly board meetings, which are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Firehouse Grill in Blue Ash. Social hour starts at 6:00 pm and the meetings start at 7:00 pm. We have had record attendance and would love to see

even more members attend. As mentioned before, members attending will receive a free PCA Badge.

One member I would like to recognize this month is our Treasurer Herb Beck. Herb is embarking on his third year as Treasurer of this organization, a time consuming job of collecting revenues, pay-ing bills, and generating quite a lot of reports for the Board. He has performed this time consum-ing task quite well and is always willing and able to concisely and accurately report on the financial happenings of the organization. Please take a mo-ment to thank Herb for his extraordinary commit-ment and dedication to the Club. Thanks Herb for all you do!

We are again in search of articles from our mem-bers. Many of you have traveled to exciting places, seen incredible cars, and have knowledge and experiences that I know would be of interest to our other members. Your contributions enhance our monthly publication, so please consider sub-mitting your ideas and articles to Fred and Ruth Zacharias. They are great editors, but content is king!

I look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming events. As always, I value your insight, ideas, and feedback. If you have an idea for an event, please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the other executive officers. Our contact information can be found on the resource page of the Bent Pylon.

See you next month.

Last month’s board meeting min-utes: Approved with a swift motion by Mike Valentine and enthusiasti-cally seconded by both Gary Nich-ols and Fred Zacharias.

First time attendees introduced: John Dunford just joined the club this month. In January he acquired a dark blue 2017 - 911 Cabriolet. Congratulations, John! Val Cobb, who joined Porsche of the Village in their sales depart-ment just a couple of weeks ago mentioned that she is aspiring to be a member and was here to learn more. Committee Chair Reports

Advertising: open

Autocross: Jeff Renner reported that we have two confirmed dates with signed contracts for this year’s autocross season: May 6 and Au-gust 26 at the iconic Kentucky Speedway in Sparta. The events will be held on the large lots sur-rounded by the garages. There’s even a possibility of a pace car led tour of the big oval. We will have the use of some of the garages. All car brands and family members are welcome. Please go to https://clubregistration.net to register.

Chief Instructor: Dale Timmester requested that drivers please sign up early so we know how to plan for instructor needs.

Club Race: Rich Rosenberg in-formed us that the PCA sponsors about 30 races nationally. Last fall the entire 1.8 miles of Putnam Park’s track received new pave-ment. The new pavement is less abrasive which will reduce tire wear. He added that 95% of the track is visible from the paddock. We will also have an Advanced Solo Driver Education (DE) element for those interested. We will limit the event to just 70 cars with 35 in each run group. Registration opens on May 22. Recommendation is to register early. We will distribute flyers at the July Mid Ohio DE event. He invited us to either run, spectate or volun-teer in the event which will be held from July 7-9. We need help in the pits and with registration. Please contact Rich if you wish to volun-teer.

Concours: John Meyer is seeking a new concourse chairman. Of the 30 Porsche of the Village gift cer-tificates only 5 have been turned in. Please remember that they expire at the end of December.

Driver Education: Thomas Crih-field (Spring) & Dennis Okin (Fall). Dennis reported that the June event had 102 drivers signed up 70 of whom had paid. He reminded us that if you pay early you will enjoy a $50 savings. He listed the three requirements: Safety, fun, and safe-ty. Please look in the March Bent Pylon for an overview of what to expect at a DE. He also issued a warning that the activity is highly addictive as many of us can attest. Then with enthusiastic agreement from those attending he invited our new visitor, Val from Porsche of the Village to arrange for loaner cars for the track from her new employer. We look forward to Val’s report at the next board meeting.

Historians: Dick Weiss & Brent Fagan. Brent Fagan brought fas-cinating literature about the domi-nance of the Porsche cars in past

races and mentioned that he is a Porsche literature collector. “I live for this,” he added. Thank you, Brent for your passion.

Members-at-large: Mike Valentine & Rick Gilhart. Mike Valentine re-ported on the Amelia Island Con-cours d’Elegance car show and having seen a GT-1, Straßenversion (street version), and many movie cars like a 964 Turbo that was fea-tured as a get-away car in a movie. “A fine time was had by all.”

Membership: Steve Schultz re-ported that as of March 1 we are up to 1357 members; 841 primary and 516 affiliate members with 11 new members in February – 9 new and 2 transfers. Steve agreed to handle the e-mail blasts. Dennis Okin agreed to telephone new members and Steve agreed to print and mail a nice welcome letter to those join-ing. There was discussion about how we might integrate the dealer’s sale of a Porsche with the intro-duction to the PCA and perhaps the cost sharing of the first year of membership.

Newsletter: Fred Zacharias men-tioned that the April edition will be published in both paper and digital-ly. He invited the members to sub-mit articles and photographs with the who, what, where, and when of we did in our Porches. Ruthie Zacharias added that we would like human interest information about the members and their cars with answers to the questions like, how long have you been a member? What sparked your interest in the brand. What year and model car do you drive? What is your dream Porsche? What PCA activities in-terest you? Please email your an-swers to Fred at [email protected]. We will compile and publish these and any anecdotes from time to time. It was suggested that we e-blast that questionnaire to the membership. We welcome good content.

The consensus was that the con-tent and look of Fred’s work as edi-tor of the Bent Pylon is extraordi-nary. Thanks, Fred for your good work.

Past President: Grant Karnes. No report

Public Relations: Open

Rally / Tour: Kurt Niemeyer invit-ed us to join us on April 22nd for a spring driving tour of Clermont County starting in Amelia with a stop in scenic New Richmond, Ohio and ending in Eastgate Cincinnati. Details are available on our web site and registration is open at the ClubRegistration.net.

Jeff Clark invited us to the April 2 cars and coffee event from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Tim Hortons at 5990 OH-48 in Maineville, OH. He invited

suggestions for tour routes and that we might organize monthly tours through October or November as the weather permits. A tour is a non-competitive way to drive your Porsche from location A to location B including a lunch stop.

Jeff went on to describe the tour before the Taj Ma Garaj event on April 8. We enjoyed Jeff’s descrip-tion of some of the delicious details of how the late John Dixon first got interested in the Porsche brand. Something about a 911 blasting past his “69 Chevelle” and only catching him because the Porsche had to stop for gas. The Taj has lots of historical pieces.

[Come to the board meetings for more compelling tales of this sort. As of this Bent Pylon publica-tion date this event is SOLD OUT. Sorry, please sign up early for the events that interest you!]

Safety: no report.

Technical: Rich Rosenberg re-ported that Bill Braucksick’s Perfor-mance Alignment – moved to their new facility on Mosteller Rd just south of 275.

Social Media: Jack Schultz report-ed that we are gaining on activity on Instagram and Facebook. He too invited the club members to send content for publication with dates and locations.

Web Site: Kara-Lyn Crihfield – no report

Old Business: Kathi Hunter has been doing a great job handling the ordering and production of OVRPCA name badges. We were reminded that if you attend a board meeting we will supply the name badges at no charge. Then the invi-tation was extended to wear them.

New Business: Mark Schlachter, owner of Metalkraft Coachwerkes reported that he moved his shop from his old location to what was the Larry Daniels shop location at 4003 Plainville Rd near Porsche of the Village. Please look for an-nouncements of a welcome party open house coming soon. It will take some time to get going but they intend to host car parties, stock a library and even occasion-ally host a movie night. If you have books to donate we will stamp the book acknowledging who donated it. He invited us to stop by any time Monday through Friday from 9-5. It was acknowledged that Mark does beautiful work.

Meeting Adjourned: at 7:58 PM on a motion by Mike Valentine and seconded by Herb Beck.

Respectfully submitted by Andrew Lautz, Secretary

ur region will host a Driver’s Ed-ucation event this coming June 10th/11th and October 7th/8th at the highly regarded Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. NASCAR,

Indy Cars, motorcycles and other types of two and four wheel vehicles are driven at this well-known, 15 turn, 2.4 mile road course. This impressive track is less than 3 hours from the greater Cincinnati area, near Mansfield, Ohio Participating in these bi-annual Driver’s Edu-cation events will provide you with a safe, fun, and exhilarating experience driving your Porsche or other high performance vehicle. You will learn how to drive the Mid-Ohio course with one of our many talented instruc-tors. First timers: There will be two class-room sessions over the weekend to enhance your knowledge of the course, your car and performance driving. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to drive a total of 8 run sessions. The first driving session will be without helmets, as your instructor, driving the first two laps at a moderate speed, will show you the corner worker’s locations and the proper driving line around the track. You will then pull into the pits and swap places so you are in the driver’s seat. This is where the real fun begins! During subsequent run ses-sions on Saturday and Sunday, you will notice your growing comfort and familiarity with the track as well as your car’s performance and handling. On Sunday your instructor may al-low you to drive solo on one of the most fa-mous road courses in the United States! There are a few safety requirements to participate in this exciting event! A simple technical inspection is required for your car, which many Porsche dealers perform at no

charge. Long sleeved shirts, long pants, and closed toe shoes are also required to drive in the Driver’s Education events. Loaner hel-mets are available on-site through our region-al organization. Included in the event registration fee of $355 is a Friday night pizza party with com-plimentary beer, wine, pizza and sides, held at the Quality Inn in Bellville, Ohio. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your instruc-tor as well as other new and returning par-ticipants to the event. Reasonable hotel rates are available for $96 per night for a king or double bed at the Quality Inn or the Comfort Inn across the street. Be sure to mention The Ohio Valley Region to secure these great rates. Many of your friends in the Ohio Val-ley Region have participated in these Driver’s Education events and can tell you more. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at [email protected] or call me at 513-300-5076. I can assure you it is an expe-rience you will never forget, and another great way to meet the fabulous people of the OVR family. Porsche Club of America

Around the ZoneGreetings PCA Zone 4 Members,

I recently attended the Winter Board of Directors Meeting in Los Angeles, arriving early enough to be able to take a beautiful new Porsche out at the Porsche Driving Experience. After the day of

fun, I spent 2 entire days in meetings, including the Board of Directors Meeting. The weekend concluded with a reception held at the newly opened Porsche Experience Center in Carson, CA, where the evening began with a tour. This beautiful facility consists of the Porsche Driv-ing Experience, a Human Performance Center, a Driving Simulator Center and Porsche Exclusive.

The center is also the new home of Porsche Motorsports North Amer-ica, the only authorized provider in the US and Canada for the sale, parts supply, and service of all specially manufactured Porsche racecars. A large glass wall provides visitors a view of the workshop, where his-torical racing cars are repaired and track vehicles are maintained. In the lobby was displayed an amazing collection of Porsches including a 911R, a GT3RS, a 917, as well as a 959 prototype. The workshop dis-play contains some very iconic racecars. Following the tour, we enjoyed a cocktail reception in the café adjacent to the boutique before sitting down to a wonderful dinner at Restaurant 917.

With the unseasonably warm days sprinkled throughout this winter, many members have already been able to take off the car covers, unplug the trickle chargers, and get out for a drive. I attended Motor-Stadt’s Annual Holiday Dinner at the Spartan Hall of Fame Café, which had an excellent turnout from the region. This year’s event included a speaker. Lori Mauthe, whose father, Peter Schutz was the CEO of Porsche AG in the 80’s, entertained us with numerous anecdotes of his time in charge of Porsche, including how he saved the 911.

I also recently attended ARPCA’s All Member Dinner at the Blue North Restaurant in Pittsburgh. The region filled the restaurant to ca-pacity for this dinner, which celebrated the region’s new members.

They welcomed the new members with wonderful donated prizes and encouraged them to continue to participate and enjoy the camaraderie that is PCA. During the evening they also presented their enthusiast of the year awards. It was a wonderful evening and everyone had an enjoyable time.

Events are continually being added to the region calendars. Please re-member to frequently check your inboxes, region’s newsletter and web-site. Many regions’ events calendars are posted on the Events page of the Zone 4 website http://zone4.pca.org . Visit the website for the latest details on many of the events that are being planned. Here are just some of the events taking place this month:

• April 8 - MOR/OVR/CIR Social at the Taj Ma Garaj in Dayton • April 11 - Motor-Stadt Region’s Board Meeting at Spagnoulos’s in Okemos • April 12 - Michiana Region’s Business Meeting at Dandino’s Supper Club in Goshen• April 15 - Rally Sport Region’s Time with Tim at Rennstat at Arbor Motion in Ann Arbor• April 22 - Ohio Valley Region’s Spring Classic Driving Tour• April 22 - Southeast Michigan Region’s New Member Gathering• April 22 - Western Michigan Region’s Stroganoff Cook Off• April 28-30 - Central Indian Region’s DE and Instructor Development at Putnam Park• April 28-30 - Northern Ohio Region’s Spring DE at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course • April 30 - ARPCA’s Spring Road Rally If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

MEMBERSHIP UPDATEHave You Met . . .

Valarie Cobb, the new Brand Ambas-sador with Porsche of the Village joined OVR in March.

Growing up, her brother was very much into cars. She shared some of his enthusiasm, particularly for the 911, of which she had a poster on her bedroom wall as a child. To date the only models she has owned were Matchbox or Hot Wheels versions of the 911 Turbo. Valarie’s dream car at the moment is a 2016 911R. She is hoping to acquire her first life size 911 by 2018.

“Having only been with POV since late January, I have learned so much about the PORSCHE brand, yet there is so much more to learn. I’m looking forward to meeting more Porsche enthusiasts and learning all I can from their over-whelming knowledge”. Valarie plans on attending most monthly meetings and future events.

The 2017 OVR autocross season is about to kick off in a big way with the events being held at the Kentucky Speedway. The event dates for 2017 are: Saturday May 6th and August 26th. Time permitting, there will also be laps around the speedway track.

Kentucky Speedway is located at: 1 Speedway Drive, Sparta, KY 41086, exit 57 off I-71 South.

For those new to the sport, autocross-ing is a fun and exciting way to drive your vehicle on a track against the clock. If you’ve never done it, there will be instructors on hand. Drivers will maneuver around a cone-lined course with sharp curves, slaloms, straightaways and tight handling situ-ations. All of this is accomplished in a safe and controlled environment with one driver on course at a time. Safety is the primary focus in autocrossing.

Autocrossing is an inexpensive way to meet with like minded people, push your driving limits, learn about the safe handling of your vehicle and most of all, have fun! These events are open to drivers with valid driver’s licenses. We are hoping for more participation from other car clubs in the surround-ing area so feel free to invite your friends. All car makes are welcome! Porsche ownership is not required. Last year we had some very fast cars including: Miatas, Corvettes, Mer-cedes, Camaros, VWs, and Scions.

Event awards are given for: Fastest Time of Day (FTD), most clean runs and best time in each run group. Ad-ditionally, year end champions as well as year end prizes are awarded at the OVR annual meeting.

Start time for each event will be 9:00 am, with registration, tech inspection, track walk, morning briefing and a scheduled 15 minute lunch break.

This schedule should allow us to wrap up the timed runs by 2:00 pm. There will be un-timed fun runs after 2:00 pm for anyone who wants to extend their day. This new venue allows for course layouts that will be more chal-lenging and longer than our 2015 & 2016 season courses.

Be on the lookout for more articles about OVR Autocross evnts in up-coming issues of The Bent Pylon. There will be a light car tech at each event. Additionally, loaner helmets, water and cookies will be provided.

If you’re interested in autocrossing and have any questions, please contact Bill Kief at: [email protected].

Registration is now open at: www.ClubRegistration.net. Please register early, we need to conserve time on Saturday mornings. The entry fee is just $40 per driver.

historic PORSCHE race cars are on display.

A new PORSCHE awaits its owner ...

As a new member of the Porsche of the Village family, I had the opportunity to visit the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta during my Brand Ambassa-dor Sales Training Course. To say the least, it was nothing short of incred-ible. I’ll give you a brief synopsis of my tour. Driving up to the facility was an eye opening moment, as the structure itself is impressive. The small fleet of Carmine Red Porsches showcasing the entry was a glimpse into what you are about to experience once you en-ter the facility. The wall of windows in the grand entry offers a direct view of the famous Porsche Experience Track. As you step forward you find a model of the entire track. Downstairs you en-ter the mesmerizing museum of show-room models that capture your fasci-nation with the Porsche history.

The delivery area offers a brilliant pre-sentation for the Porsche customer embarking on their new Porsche jour-ney. The shop and world class restau-rant “356” have tremendous offerings and the service center is organized and immaculate. Then there is the Track. Once outside, you are instantly met with the exhilarating sound of Porsche engines revving by at full force. It’s quite difficult to pull yourself away from intensely watching these machines fly around the track and drift through the turnabout with such ease... unless you opt to drive one, which you will most certainly want to do. Once you do, you will not want to drive anything else. I highly recommend that you visit at your first opportunity and grab life by the Porsche!

My first Porsche was a 1997 911 model 993. This rear engine

air cooled car was my dream car. A convertible yet a powerful

sports car with 282 hp. Until I met Bill Kief, I did not know any-

thing about the Porsche Club or driver education events. Bill owes me

many thousands of dollars and I owe him many thanks for the friendships

and fun I have had in the last 16 plus years. Many of our best friends are

in the club and we look forward to an assortment of events.

However I have digressed. In my 1997 993 cab the only true electronic

system was ABS. This is anti-lock brakes. This technology is common

to most cars today and allows you to slam on the brakes and a pulsing

sensation occurs maximizing braking and minimizing skidding hence giv-

ing you the ability to steer the car effectively and hopefully avoid a wreck.

The system, as defined in Wikipedia: “An anti-lock braking system or

anti-skid braking system (ABS) is an automobile safety system that allows

the wheels on a motor vehicle to maintain tractive contact with the road

surface according to driver inputs while braking, preventing the wheels

from locking up (ceasing rotation) and avoiding uncontrolled skidding.”

I sold my car last year and was fortunate to buy a 2016 Cayman GTS. When I looked at the Cayman Car sticker I was presented with systems with the following letters; PSM, ABS, ASR, ABD, PTV,TPMS, POSIP and MSR. Wow other than ABS ( anti- lock braking system) I had no idea what those other systems were. In those 19 years Porsche had added quite a bit to the driving systems in their cars.I was able to findthe following listing of current Porsche systems on the web. Here it is:

Automatic Brake Differential (ABD)ABD counteracts wheel spin by individually braking the driving wheel with the higher degree of slip. Integrated in PSM. Always on no controls.

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)Prevents locking of wheel during braking, thereby improv-ing the vehicle’s steering response. This system can not be turned off.

Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) Reduces slip on the drive wheels during acceleration through a reduction in engine power. Integrated in PSM. Cannot be controlled by the driver.

Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR)Adjusts engine speed when the acceleration pedal is re-leased to prevent slip on the drive wheels (this slip can be produced by the engine’s brake force). Integrated in PSM.

Porsche Active Dynamic Engine Mounts (PADM) System of electronic engine mounts, included in Sport Chrono package and in the GT3, which stiffen or relax the engine mounts depending on driving conditions. No controls.

Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)Active damper system with four continuously adjustable shock absorbers and two basic modes: Normal setting with a more comfortable basic configuration of the damp-ers; these switch to a more sporty mode if the vehicle is driven more dynamically. Sport setting with harder damper characteristics that supports an extremely agile driving style and is comparable with the properties of a sports chassis. Can be controlled by the driver.

Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB)Brake system with brake discs made from a ceramic composite material and specially adapted brake pads. In contrast to a brake system featuring cast-iron discs, PCCB offers faster response times on dry road surfaces, extremely high fading stability as a result of constant coefficients of friction and high safety reserves under high levels of strain. PCCB also weighs around 50 percent less

than a conventional grey cast iron brake disc. Expensive brake option.

Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC)Almost completely eliminates lateral body movement when cornering. The core elements of this system include active anti-roll bars with variable coupling rods and elec-tromechanical or hydraulic pivot motors integrated on the front and rear axle in place of the conventional mechanical anti-roll bars. This counteracts the lateral movements that typically occur when cornering. No controls by the driver if model car has it always on.

Power Steering/ Power Steering Plus: Electric assist is standard, and is variable ratio (changes with degree of lock). Steering torque pulse “assists” the driver in maintaining stability when braking on a road with a rough surface and hence different levels of friction between wheels. Power Steering Plus also changes ratios based on vehicle speed. No controls.

Porsche Stability Management (PSM) Stabilizes the vehicle when this is driven close to the limits of its driving dynamics through targeted braking of individual wheels. Includes further functions such as ABS (anti-lock brake system), ASR (anti-slip regulation), MSR (engine drag torque control) and ABD (automatic brake differential), as well as brake assist, precharging of the brake system and hold assist. PSM can be switched off in two stages on various cars and turned on or off in other models.

Porsche Traction Managementv (PTM)Active all-wheel drive with electronically controlled, map-controlled multi-plate clutch. Standard in 4s cars and most newer turbos. Cannot be turned on or off. Always on.

Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV)Mechanical rear differential lock with variable torque dis-tribution on the rear axle. Brakes the inside rear wheel in a targeted manner to improve the vehicle’s steering behav-iour andsteering precision. Cannot be controlled by the driver. Optional system.

Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus)Works in a similar manner to PTV with variable torque dis-tribution on the rear wheels, but also features an electroni-cally controlled rear differential lock. Cannot be controlled by the driver, optional system.

Rear Axle Steering Standard on the new GT3, optional on other models. Electrohydraulic system steers the rear wheels opposite

Advice From The Porsche Driving School Instructors

1. For a novice driver, set the car so that the electronics are the most restrictive. That means auto gear select for PDK cars, Sport button off,

Sport Plus button off for cars with the Sport Chrono op-tion, PASM in normal, PSM on.

2. For the advanced driver, set the car electronics to their most aggressive modes: PDK in manual mode, Sport or Sport Plus button on, PASM in Sport, PSM on. Note, PSM on. The chief of the Porsche Driving School instructors told us that they cannot achieve higher lap times with the PSM turned off. Apparently, the new PSM is sophisticated enough to allow the car to be driven around a road course as fast as possible by the most highly skilled driver. He said that, with the systems set in their most aggressive mode, if the PSM warning light is flashing (and hence PSM is intervening), the car is being “overdriven.” This is interesting, as it gives the instructor an indication of the quality of the student’s driving beyond his own sensory inputs, experience, and instincts.

3. On the skid pad, making a 90 degree turn at modest speed on a very low friction surface, the PSM system on the 991 throttles down and brakes the car so much that you end up staying on line even with the throttle to the floor. This is not true for the 4S. In the 4S, PTM transfers torque to the front wheels when the rear wheels begin to slip. At this point, the car is beginning to rotate, and an experienced driver will automatically countersteer. How-ever, countersteering will cause the front wheels to pull you off line. So, the best approach is not to correct but to let the front wheels pull you out of the rotation. This we found hard to do as it is contrary to years of training in what to do when the rear end of your 911 starts trying to pass you.

4. With all these complex electronic systems, it seems that it will get harder and harder to modify the car for better track performance without potentially running afoul of some system, but this was beyond the scope of our session.

I hope you found this interesting. There are other systems that Porsche has designed and many of them depend on the model and options chosen.

The technology in these cars today is incredible!

to the fronts below something like 50 KPH and with the fronts above. This has the effect of shortening the wheel base at low speed, reducing the turning radius, and in-creasing the wheelbase at high speed, improving stability in high speed turns. No controls.

Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS)Continuously monitors pressure in all four wheels. The driver can view air pressure values via a display in the instrument cluster and the system issues a warning in the event ofcritical deviations from the normal value.

About three years ago the Chief Driving Instructors from the Northern New Jersey Region of the Porsche Club (one of the largest regions in the US) attended a session from National Headquarters, PCNA. In this session they were presented with great information on many of these systems. They were given information as how to drive with these systems based on skill level. With their permission we will copy their club write up:

The Controls

There are control buttons on the center console along the left edge that enable the driver to adjust the performance of the car. All cars have Sport and PSM buttons. Sport Plus and PASM buttons come with optional systems.

Sport: Reduces level of intervention by PSM, allowing for more aggressive driving. More aggressive throttle map. Lights up when engaged.

Sport Plus: PSM set to least intrusive mode. PASM I think sets to sport, but this can be independently con-trolled. PDK set to most aggressive shift response and will keep engine RPMs higher when set in auto mode. Most aggressive throttle map. PADM set to most rigid damping. Changes steering ratio. Lights up when en-gaged.

PASM: Control switch on console shows a shock ab-sorber. Two settings: normal and sport. Lights up when in sport mode.

PSM: A switch on the console allows it to be switched off, in which case a warning light (car with skid marks underneath) is lit on the dash.
