Dr. Ben Carson

Pediatric Neurosurgeon

Elementary school years

During his elementary school years,

Dr. Carsons parents divorced and he lived in Detroit.

He was at the bottom of his class and was called the class dummy.

Dr. Carson developed an uncontrollable temper.

With his mothers encourage Carson he had become top of his class.

High School Years

He got side tracked by his peers and didnt study as hard.

Carsons violent temper was nearly the cause of his friends death so he learned to control his temper.

After his temper had been controlled, he went back to his studies even more determined to be a doctor.

After High School Years

During his late high school years Carson joined the ROTC to follow in his brothers footsteps.

Carson obtained the highest rank in the ROTC very quickly, compared to the time it takes others to even get to lower ranks than what he had obtained.

He was offered many things after he graduated being that high of a rank in ROTC, but he declined them because he wanted to be a doctor.

Years at Yale College

Carson attended Yale College, and he obtained his degree in Psychology.

Carson truly learned how to study during his years at Yale, because the work was much harder than it was in high school.

Medical School years

When Carson graduated from Yale his interested shifted toward neurosurgery.

During this time Carson traveled to Australia for one year to study neurosurgery.

Also during his time at Australia, Dr. Carsons wife had their first child.

Beginning at John Hopkins

When Carson finished medical school he went to John Hopkins to become a neurosurgeon.

At the age of 32 Carson became the director of pediatric neurosurgery.
