Directions As I read the article, you should start to think about the topic. What is the

topic? Find the topic and circle it as many times as you see it.

Next, find the topic sentence. Circle it in green.

If you have found the topic and topic sentence, you should be able to find the controlling idea. Find it and circle it yellow.

Find and underline all details that support your topic sentence in red.

Find any transitional words and underline them in purple.

At the top of the article, write an original title.

On the back of your foldable, write a main idea statement. Make sure it is one sentence that clearly states the topic and controlling idea.
