Greenstock Nurseries has been a major supplier of plants to the Landscape and Retail Nursery Industries for over 30 years.

As one of the leading wholesale production nurseries in Queensland, we can supply all of your plant requirements for landscape projects from residential to large commercial. We offer our clients a huge range of quality plants, from tubestock to large container-ised and ex-ground trees, at competitive prices.

With a production area of 80 hectares, Greenstock Nurseries spans three sites, with our head office at Griffin, just north of Bris-bane. Here we grow our largest variety of plants for the landscape industry, from tube stock to large containerised trees as well as Greenwalls. Our Tissue Culture Laboratory, propagation and specialist tropical plant facility is located at Bellmere. Here, we also grow our plants for the retail nursery industry. In addition to these two sites we have a tree farm near Mackay in North Queens-land.

Our fleet of twelve trucks can deliver to all areas of Queensland, New South Wales and beyond and can usually offer next day deliv-ery for orders placed before 9am, to areas between the Gold and Sunshine Coasts.

As well as supplying a vast range of landscape species, the following are our other areas of specialist expertise:

Greenstock Nurseres Propagation (GNP) produces quality tubestock to supply other Wholesale Nurseries, Landscape Contractors and Environmental/Ecological Companies. We also liaise with Landscape Architects to produce the best possible out-comes for the environment and our clients. GNP can offer contract growing at competitive rates.Our propagation facility, including a Tissue Culture Laboratory, is situated at our Bellmere site.

Greenstock Nurseries is a vertically integrated company- specialising in offering a complete horticultural service including consulta-tion, provenance seed collections - providing genetic diversity and integrity, to germinating, producing and delivering tubestock to sites throughout Queensland and Northern NSW. Propagation Houses

GNP also produces tubestock for our Natspec tree range as well as clonal forms of all proven and popular landscape varietals. GNP has three propagation houses, with our largest holding more than 300,000 propagules at full capacity and with an annual turn-over of more than four crops per year. One of our propagation houses is devoted simply to germinating seed with more than 450 Queensland species and more than 2500 seed trays sown per year.

Automatic Seeding Machine (ASM)

GNP produces many grasses and macrophytes with our Auto-matic Seeding Machine. GNP has two polyhouses dedicated to plugs produced by our ASM, with each house holding 60,000 plugs and a turn-over of more than 750,000 seedlings annually. In addition, GNP usually has at least 250,000 plugs in sun-hard-ened production.

GNP has developed many techniques to germinate recalcitrant species and continue to introduce new species to our production palette. Seed Collection & Provenance

Licences

Greenstock Nurseries holds several licences to legally collect seed throughout Queensland. We also procure seed from reputable seed collectors that have the relevant authority and follow Florabank* best practice guidelines.A carefully deliberated revegetation project begins with Provenance seed col-lections at least 12 months from any rehabilitation or enhancement. GNP can quote and complete seed collections, monitoring, reports, trials and contract grow to cater for any requirements, resulting in sustainable and successful revegetation.Seed Storage

GNP has temperature controlled refrigerators to store seed that remains viable for up to 4 years. Other facilities include a dry stored area and seed thrashing and sorting machine.

Seed that has a short viability or is perishable needs to be sown when fresh and therefore GNP try to grow numbers based on forecast sales for the ensu-ing year. GN would prefer to take forward orders for these species to avoid disappointment.

Micro-propagation

GNP has a Micro-propagation Laboratory (Tissue Culture) which pro-duces popular landscape species that are conducive to propagation of this type and climate. Tissue Culture results in clonal forms of consistent type, growth and habit, ideal for soft works landscape design. Our Laboratory Technicians can also provide a service of “initiation” of species that show future potential in the horticultural industry- contracts can be arranged upon application. Container Sizes and Industry Standardisation

One of the largest problems in the Nursery Industry is the lack of standardisation of container sizes.• A general rule is that pot sizes up to 300mm in diameter can be described as such. • Above that diameter containers should be described by volume (25L, 45L, 100L, 200L, 300L, and 400L) or ‘ex-ground’.• Tube sizes should be standardised as follows: A tube is typically 50x50mm square (with varied depths) A ‘native’ or ‘forestry’ tube is 50x50mm with a depth of 120mm Ferns, Pandanus and Crinum are typically sold in 70x70mm square 75mm containers are virtually obsolete.

Natspec

Natspec is the standard for quality assurance for trees in Australia. Natspec is an intrinsic part of GNP production regime and the processes of Natspec include-• Collection of quality seed• Determine best methodology to germinate seed• Seed orientation• Media particle size• Pricking-out & root prune if necessary• Cull inferior seedlings• Cuttings from superior stock plants to create uniformity• Root prune disorientated roots • Prune roots back at each stage of potting• Correct fertiliser and pesticide management regimes

Environmental StripsGNP also produces an Environmental Strip to cater for projects that require construction or rehabilitation to be established in a quicker time-frame. Frustration can be averted by planting Environmental Strips as they are less likely than tubestock to be removed by aquatic fauna. Most species can be planted as strips, however availability is subject to specification and are contract grown.

Why use local species......Using local indigenous plant species in revegetation allows the environment to mimic the existing ecosystem. Indigenous species encourage the plant-animal interaction by providing natural habitat recourses for local wildlife, such as foods, refuge and reproduction materials, which maximises the success of the restoration in turn, by providing pollination and seed disper-sal.
