Regular Public Meeting August 24, 2015Remarks by Citizens – AGENDA ITEMS ONLY (Public Participation Session 1): Tom McCrohan: Questions regarding computer tech being hired. Will he take care of everyday problems? (Dr. Tomko: would love to hire more.) Regarding rehiring of Henry Sinatra, are two 12 month vice-principals necessary at the Middle School? (Dr. Tomko: Yes, at this time a lot of work has to be done.) Hiring of Media Specialist, should consider making two positions rather than a shared person. Questions about change of room use (Dr. Tomko: to alleve overcrowding.)

GeorgeAnn Polite: Why change of use for the middle school media room? (Dr. Tomko: Making 2 classrooms to help with enrollment) Should have a multi-cultural day rather than a Hispanic night representing the different cultures in our town. Regarding flash drives: statement about police report confusing as to how Mr. Longo felt he was defrauded. Someone should be held accountable. (Dr. Tomko: Flash drives do exist, using for curriculum, teachers, donating 10 to municipality.)

Vincent Frantantoni: Does raising the bid threshold mean that they can buy without board approval? (Mr. Egan: Motion to raise limit to $40,000, can purchase without bid but has to be board approved.) You can get cheaper prices then state contract. Asking board members to keep tabs on tax dollars. Should not hold a Hispanic Night. We do not need diversity in this country we need to be one. This is America. You come to American culture.

Moved by Mrs. Lombardi, seconded by Mrs. Torres, to close Public Participation. Resolutions:

Remarks by Citizens – ANY ITEM (Public Participation Session 2):Tom McCrohan: Did the board have to approve Mr. Demikoff to the $40,000 bid threshold or was it state mandated. (Mr. Egan: Yes they had to decide to allow him to do that.) In-school suspension – great idea with same teacher every day. A lot of different stories circulating about the flash drives, hope it’s put to rest. Website looks a lot better than before, still very difficult. Have we filled all open positions? (Dr. Tomko: Have filled 99%).

Jeff Mattingly: Would appreciate if board would please use the microphones. Website is not easy to navigate. Is there a library in the Middle School? (Dr. Tomko: Making into two classrooms). No library or media room in the Middle School? (Dr. Tomko: Each classroom will have books in classroom and she will teach there.) Please work on getting 6th graders out of the Middle School and back into the elementary schools. How did the flash drives get purchased?

GeorgeAnn Polite: Unfortunate about Media Center – no turning back. Relayed message from Councilman Kennedy: In the spirit of moving forward, flash drives appreciated but not necessary – asking board to pay for own garbage removal. Didn’t know Athletic Advisory Council was disbanded. Raised thousands of dollars. Is subpoena investigating the Advisory Athletic Council? (Mr. Egan: Can’t say until they submit their report. Don’t know what exactly they are looking for.) Policy for gang involvement, will it be on the website. (Dr. Tomko: Just contracted with Strauss Esmay to be on the website for public viewing.) Asked for bullying incident report by school. Thinks the report is distorted.

Bill Mildon: Why is the board not filing an appeal with Mike Mignone? (Cannot discuss legal issue.) How long will it take to fix the façade at School #7 (Dr. Tomko: will get information for him.) Who’s doing security consultant job now?

Vincent Frantantoni: Please use microphones properly. Can’t hear what you are saying. Why was classroom supplies revised? Money budgeted for students were not spent. Increasing salaries and hiring new but not ordering supplies. Board gave away School #1 – hope Board members will take better care of our tax dollars.
