Notes on Part 3

Round 1 will be slightly different for each of the various styles and for the rectangle and square options – make sure you select the correct option according to which style/size you are making.

Rounds 2 to 6 will be the same for all styles/sizes.

Secure your ends once you are sure that the row/round is correct.

You will find asterisks in the instructions below. These denote the following: o *Adjust the starting position if you are left-handed by flipping the diagram from right to

left. o ** x indicates the number of sts on the side you are working on. This is dependent on

which size you have chosen to make. o ***the 1st 2hdc of the side are worked into the same sp as the last st(s) before the ch2

Rectangle Options for Style 1

Round 1: Style 1 Rectangle Option Side 1: Start at the position as indicated by the red arrow in the diagram above*. With rs facing, join your chosen colour with a st-hdc in the 1st sp (the sp before the 1st fptc on the last row), 1hdc in the same sp, 1hdc in each of the next 𝑥** number of sps to the end of the side, (the final hdc will be placed in the sp after the last fptc of the row), ch2 to form the 1st corner. Side 2: [(2hdc*** in the next ch2/dc sp) 12 times] 𝑥 times (until the last ch2/dc sp), 2hdc in the next sp (the sp before the next fptc on the last row), 1hdc in each of the next 𝑥 number of sps to the end of the side, (the final hdc will be placed in the sp after the last fptc of the row), ch2 to form the 2nd corner. Side 3: (2hdc*** in the next ch2/dc sp) 𝑥 times to the end of the side, ch2 to form the 3rd corner. Side 4: 2hdc*** in the next sp (the sp before the 1st fptc on the last row), 1hdc in each of the next 22 sps, (2hdc in the next ch2/dc sp) 𝑥 times to the end of the side, ch2. Fasten off. Join with an invisible join to the top of the beg st-hdc to form the 4th corner. Check that your hdc stitch count for each of the four sides is a number divisible by 24.

Square Options for Style 1

Round 2 With rs facing, join your chosen colour with a st-hdc in any corner ch2 sp, ch2, 1hdc in the same sp to form the 1st corner, working in the blo – 1hdc in each st to the end of the side (don’t sk the hs), [(1hdc, ch2, 1hdc) in the corner ch2 sp, working in the blo – 1hdc in each st to the end of the side (don’t sk the hs)] 3 times. Fasten off and join with an invisible join to the top of the beg st-hdc. Stitch Count per Side: a number divisible by 24 + 2. Corners: (1hdc, ch2, 1hdc).

Round 3 With rs facing, join your chosen colour with a st-hdc in any corner ch2 sp, 2hdc in the same sp to form the 1st corner, working in the blo – (1hdc in the hs, p), (8hdc, p) 𝑥 times, you will have 1 st remaining before the corner - 1hdc into this st, [(3hdc) in the corner ch2 sp, working in the blo – (1hdc in the hs, p), (8hdc, p) 𝑥 times, you will have 1 st remaining before the corner - 1hdc into this st] 3 times, Fasten off and join with an invisible join to the top of the beg st-hdc. Stitch Count per side: a number divisible by 24 + 4. Corners: 3hdc.


Round 4 With rs facing, join your chosen colour with a st-hdc in the centre hdc st of any corner, (ch5, sk 4 sts, hdc in the next st, ch3, sk 2 sts, hdc in the next st) 𝑥 times (you should have 3 sts remaining before the next corner 3hdc), ch5, sk 4 sts, [hdc in the centre hdc st of the next corner, (ch5, sk 4 sts, hdc in the next st, ch3, sk 2 sts, hdc in the next st) 𝑥 times, (you should have 3 sts remaining before the next corner 3hdc), ch5, sk 4 sts] 3 times. Fasten off and join with an invisible join to the top of the beg st-hdc.

Round 5 With rs facing, join your chosen colour with a st-fphdc around the hdc st in any corner, (8dc in the next ch-5 sp, sc in the next ch-3 sp) 𝑥 times (you should have 1 ch-5 sp remaining before the next corner), 8dc in the last ch-5 sp before the corner, [fphdc around the hdc corner st, (8dc in the next ch-5 sp, sc in the next ch-3 sp) 𝑥 times (you should have 1 ch-5 sp remaining before the next corner), 8dc in the last ch-5 sp before the corner] 3 times. Fasten off and join with an invisible join to the top of the beg st-fphdc.


Round 6 With rs facing, join your chosen colour with a st-fphdc around the fphdc st in any corner, (sk 1 st, bphdc around each of the next 6 sts, sk 1 st, fphdc around the next st) 𝑥 times (you should have 8 sts remaining before the next corner), sk 1 st, bphdc around the next 6 sts, sk 1 st, [fphdc around the next corner st, (sk 1 st, bphdc around the next 6 sts, sk 1 st, fphdc around the next st) 𝑥 times (you should have 8 sts remaining before the next corner), sk 1 st, bphdc around each of the next 6 sts, sk 1 st].
