• The ACT Government is continuing to lead the significant reform agenda toreduce the impact of domestic and family violence in our community.

• Together with the community sector, the Government has made considerableprogress towards implementing the commitments made in the 2016 ACTGovernment Response to Family Violence. Of the 41 separate commitments,80% have been fully implemented, with the remainder in progress.

• With funding from the Safer Families evy a range of existing services havebeen bolstered, and programs are in place to build the capacity of existingservices to better respond to domestic and family violence. The Family SafetyLevy has enabled the strengthening of criminal justice responses, for exampleadditional police officers to assist victims of domestic violence, in particular toapply for domestic violence protection orders on behalf of victims and toinvestigate family violence related offences.

• Significant progress has been made in the establishment of the Family SafetyHub, such that we now have a clear direction, informed by the insights frompeople with a lived experience of domestic and family violence and theservice providers who support them.

• The Family Safety Hub will bring people together in a collaborative network todrive system change through the use of a 'try, test and learn' approach.Implementation will focus on building: a shared understanding across theservice system so people get the right response wherever they seek help;capability to integrate services for clients; and alternative pathways to safetythat meet diverse needs.

• There have been significant gains in the last year, however we are really onlyjust getting started. There is still much to be done to reduce the occurrenceand the impact of domestic and family violence. The ACT Governmentremains committed to this essential area of reform and looks forward tocontinued strengthening of activity and partnerships over the coming years.

• The Canberra community has long led the nation on equality and

inclusiveness for women and we are committed to striving to be a world

leader in gender equity.

• The ACT has a 69.4% workforce participation rate for women, one of the

highest in the word. The ACT Government is leading by example by

empowering women in the workforce. The majority of ACT Government

departmental heads are now women and 44.7% of senior executive positions

are held by women. This has resulted in a gender pay gap of only 3.1% across

the ACT public service. The ACT is also a national leader in representation of

women on government-appointed boards, with 48%.

• The ACT Office for Women is continuing this important work right across

government and I am very proud to announce that the ACT Budget will deliver

new investment of $696,000 to support stronger promotion of gender

equality throughout the ACT. This will support the Office for Women to

implement key actions under the ACT Women's Plan 2016-26 and to support

increased representation on boards and committees.

• There are 100 actions under the ACT WomenJ

s Plan: First Action Plan and I am

happy to report that of the 44 actions allocated to Year One, over 95 per cent

have been completed or are underway. Work will continue to deliver the

remaining actions over the coming months.

• To maintain and improve on our achievements as a national leader in

delivering diversity for ACT boards and committees, this new investment will

also support the connection of women and people from a diverse range of

backgrounds with available board positions, as well as training and

networking opportunities, through the Diversity Register.

• Additional funding has also been committed to deliver a board traineeship

program, particularly focused on industries where female representation is

low. This will provide support to organisations to meet the Government's

commitment to achieving 50 per cent female representation on ACT

Government boards, and the target for triennially funded sporting

associations who are required to have 40 per cent female representation by

2020.

• This new support will mean we can continue making progress towards the full

and equal participation of women in all aspects of our community.

ENDS.
