Bell Schedule

Page 18: Bell City High School Once a Bruin, Always a Bruin.

Recovery

• Recovery is a 60 minute block of time set aside daily to address academic weaknesses in core curriculum areas.

• Students are assigned to Recovery by school leadership team (administrators, counselors, & teachers) based on their grades. An “F” on an IPR will get a student assigned to Recovery until the end of the 9 week period.

• A student with an “F” on a 9 week report card will be placed in Recovery until the next report card.

• Communication between recovery and core teachers is critical to success.

Page 19: Bell City High School Once a Bruin, Always a Bruin.

Enrichment

• All students are initially placed in an enrichment class (30 minutes). They are pulled from enrichment if they are placed in either Recovery or Intervention.

• Student enrichment rosters represent mixed grade and ability levels.

• Non-core teachers facilitate the Enrichment portion of REI by teaching a class that students may look forward to attending; ex. strength training, golf, chess, Netbook / internet skills, school news / website, etc.

• Students rotate through enrichment classes each 9 week period.

Page 20: Bell City High School Once a Bruin, Always a Bruin.

Intervention• 30 minutes of Intervention time is available each day,

facilitated by core teachers. • Core teachers may place students in Intervention to

complete work assignments, take missed tests, or to address areas needing improvement.

• Student participation is mandatory.• Teachers utilize school system h-drive to enroll students

in Intervention. • Intervention lists are posted each morning in designated

areas by 7:45 am for students to view. • Intervention time is also used periodically for

principal/student meetings or counselor sessions.

Page 21: Bell City High School Once a Bruin, Always a Bruin.

Results of REI (District Course Unit Failure Rate)

• 2008 > 8.8% (baseline)• 2009 > 8.0%• 2010 > 2.1%• 2011 > 1.3% ( District average > 8.0%)• Bell City High School had the lowest

Course Unit Failure Rate in the Calcasieu Parish School System for 2011.

Page 22: Bell City High School Once a Bruin, Always a Bruin.

Additional Benefits of RTI/REI

• SpEd referrals may be reduced because of early intervention and providing students with additional resources to address identified academic weaknesses.

• Possible reduction in SpEd staff due to reduction in students needing services.
