BELATED January 11th February 10th The Hamilton Grange National Memorial, in partnership with the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society, will hold a belated Happy Birthday Hamilton! program since the site was closed on Hamilton’s birthday (January 11th) due to the NPS’ shutdown. Nicole Scholet de Villavicencio is a historian who specializes in the Founding Era of the United States. She has spoken on Alexander and Eliza Hamilton at venues such as Hamilton Grange National Memorial, George Washington University Museum, and Schuyler Mansion, and has been featured on C-SPAN. Her talk will share insights on Hamilton’s early life in the Caribbean through the examination of a letter that 12-year-old Hamilton wrote to his friend Edward Stevens. is letter, written in 1769, is the oldest extant letter written by Hamilton, and a fascinating snapshot of his early thinking. Hamilton has been recognized for his contributions to the founding of our nation and the establishment of a sound financial and economic system. is talk uses historical evidence to reveal Hamilton as a warm, generous, and deeply human individual who advocated respect for and equal treatment of all groups in society.
