Welcome to Big Camp 2018. It is so good that you have come to enjoy the blessing of being together as God’s people. I know that God will be in our midst and moving amongst us by His Spirit.I was looking at the definition of the word ‘Camp.’ It is variously described as a place of temporary accommodation typically utilised by refugees or travelling people. In that respect I think calling what we do here ‘camp’ makes perfect sense; we are here only temporarily. But one can’t help thinking that we are just ‘camping’ here on this earth. We are only temporary residents, a people who belong to another place, a better and eternal home built by God’s own hand.It is while we are here that we observe the hand of God at work, preparing a people to be with Him, and as growing disciples ourselves, we partner with God to invite others on the journey. What is God doing? There are times when He is at work and we don’t see what is happening. We are in our own little world, tuned out to God’s activity. Such was the case in Isaiah’s day.

For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?

I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. (Isaiah 43:19)

Perhaps it is because it was ‘new’ that it went unnoticed. People alert and tuned to familiar things can be oblivious to the new thing that is happening. Does God want to do something new in South Queensland? In us; in our churches? Let us pray for eyes to see what God is doing and allow Him to do work both in us and through us – in new ways!God bless you for a wonderful camp meeting experience in 2018!

    Pr Brett Townend President

Please note that the first meeting is opening Sabbath worship for all the family in the Big Tent at 5.30 pm, Friday, September 15.

    CAMP PROGRAM 2018

  • Big Family Tent Dr Reinder Bruinsma PhD is a Dutchman who lives in the Netherlands along with his wife Aafje. He has had a long and

varied career in the Adventist Church as pastor, editor, teacher and church administrator—in Europe, West Africa and the United States. Since retirement in 2017, he has remained active in various administrative assignments, in preaching and in teaching in seminars. Reinder is also a prolific writer, with hundreds of articles and some 25 books to his name, some written in English and others in Dutch, and many of them translated into various other languages. His latest book is In All Humility: Saying NO to Last Generation Theology which is about to appear. Reinder’s wife, Aafje was a professional translator of books prior to retirement. Together they have two adult children and two grandchildren.

Big Family Tent Pr Peter Roenfeldt DMin has spent his life sharing the Gospel, planting churches and as a pastor to pastors. Author of Following Jesus

(2017) and Following the Spirit (2018), his newest book, If You Can Eat is being released at Big Camp 2018. Having lived in four countries and having equipped church planting teams in sixty, Peter now lives along with his wife Judy, in Melbourne, but continues to travel widely to equip and coach church planters and pastors around the world.

Encounter Pr John Boston, II currently serves as Senior School Evangelist for the North New South Wales Conference—an initiative designed to promote

missional alignment of church and school

for a precision impact in community. John has previously served as a Police Chaplain and as Faith-Leader for Barack Obama’s mentor initiative, ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ in Columbus, Ohio. Pastor Boston is a cutting edge innovator with a deep commitment to sharing the gospel of the soon-coming Saviour, Jesus Christ. He is married to Karla and they have one miracle child, Riley Madison, who happens to be star of the hit YouTube series, ‘The Adventures of Riley Madison.’ The Boston’s live in beautiful Port Macquarie, NSW.

Young Adult Pr Michael Kelly has served as youth pastor for churches in Virginia, California and Michigan. Currently Senior Pastor of Mount Rubidoux

Adventist Church in Southern California, he has the honour of leading an amazing community of believers and pastoral staff. Michael believes in a focused yet multi-dimensional ministry, and seeks other avenues to bring the Kingdom to the community. A key way of achieving this has been through leadership training and team-building seminars for both churches and businesses. He and his wife Tia Patrice have two incredible daughters, Gihanna (14) and Genesis (12).

Senior High Pr Shantel Smith is a native of Toronto, Canada, serving currently as associate pastor of Emmanuel Brinklow Adventist Church in

Maryland, US. She has completed a Masters of Divinity at Andrews University, and has served as a chaplain for both Burman University and Pacific Union College. Her favourite Bible text is Deuteronomy 30:15, “Today I place before you life and death, happiness and misery, prosperity and disaster. Choose Life.”

Junior High Pr Jeremy Taituave is Health Director for SNSW Conference as well as pastoring two churches and a company. “I have two

beautiful girls in my life – my wife, Sarina and our daughter, Eva-May, who are the world to me. I love Jesus because He has transformed my life in amazing ways and in response I followed His call into ministry. Prior to that I was a passionate personal trainer, and I continue to implement those principles into my ministry.”

Upper Primary Pr Andrew Olsen is children’s and family pastor at Livingston Adventist Church in Perth, WA. He loves telling stories about God and enjoys

using science experiments to make those stories come alive. He lives with his wife, his daughter, two dogs and one canary.
