PRESENT SIMPLE(Do you want some beer? No, thank you. I drink coffee but I dont drinktea.)

Se usa para expresar cosas que ocurren con cierta frecuencia ohabitualmente. Tambin para hacer afirmaciones cientficas.

I work in a bank and I go by car.Water boils at 100 C.

1. Afirmacin

Se construye con el infinitivo de casi cualquier verbo (hay algunosque no se usan en este tiempo verbal).

I love popcorns.He loves dancing.She loves movies.It (the dog) loves the cat.We love skiing.

You two love Mexican food.They love the beach.

Ntese que la tercera persona de singular (he/she/it) aade una -s alfinal.

I read. He reads.You like. She likes.They work. It works.

2. Negacin

La frmula de la negacin en presente simple es:

I do not play.I dont play.He does not play.He doesnt play.

En las anteriores oraciones, el verbo to do funciona comoverboauxiliar. Aunque tiene su propio significado (hacer) y puede funcionarcomo verbo principal (I do my homework), el verbo to do funciona tambincomo verbo auxiliar. Qu es un verbo auxiliar? Es un verbo consignificado propio que, en ciertas ocasiones, lo pierde por completo parafuncionar no semntica sino sintcticamente. Es decir, para ayudar alverbo principal. De este modo, en el presente simple, la negacin y la

persona recaen en el verbo auxiliar (va conjugado) y el verbo principalqueda desnudo (en infinitivo).

I begin at eight oclock --> aqu begin es verbo principal y va en 1persona.

He begins at half past eight --> aqu begin es verbo principal y va en

3 persona.

I dont begin until ten oclock --> aqu begin es verbo principal y vadesnudo, en infinitivo. El dont es verbo auxiliar y va en negacin yen 1 persona.

She doesnt begin until quarter to ten --> aqu begin es verboprincipal y va desnudo, en infinitivo. El doesnt es verbo auxiliar yes el que lleva la negacin y la 3 persona.

El verbo to do como verbo principal tambin necesita un verboauxiliar:

I do it very often.I dont do it very often.

He does it with love.He doesnt do it with love.

El verbo to do(significa hacer y tambin es verbo auxiliar)
