Basic Makeup Supplies Needed

As a member of the cast, you will need your own stage makeup. This helps reduce the spread of colds, flu, pink eye, etc. Do not share makeup with others, unless sanitizing between uses. Never share mascara, lipstick or any-thing that would touch eyes or mouth. Theatrical makeup is different than street makeup. Theatrical makeup has a heavier and different pigment content and shows up better under lights than regular makeup. If you/your child has a reaction to theatrical makeup, see the director and accommodations will be made. Pencils and mascara for the stage are the same as street makeup.

Items needed: Base Foundation (slightly darker than your skin tone) Highlight Lowlight Neutral lip color Neutral blush Eye liner pencils (dark brown and black suggested and this can also be used on brows)

These items can be purchased individually by you or you may wish to purchase a basic makeup kit through the school and these items will be contained within that kit with the exception that only one eyeliner pencil will be included.

Other items that may be needed (not in the kit): Black Mascara (needed) Makeup sponges (kit comes with one sponge and more may be needed) Makeup remover Makeup brushes (Kit comes with one brush but more may be needed) Loose Face powder (Kit comes with some, but not much) Powder brush or pad Eye shadow (See director for color for that character) Other shades of lipstick may be needed (See director for color for that character) Powder blush (optional, but is easier to use that the one that comes in the kit) A few small containers to put makeup samples (like a Mon-Sun pill box works well and is optional, but it helps students keep organized and keeps makeup safe) Our recommendation is Ben Nye Theatrical for least allergic reactions.

Specialized items like spirit gum, spirit gum remover, prosthetics, temporary theatrical hair color, etc, will be provided by the Theatre department.

Before starting any makeup. Start with a clean skin including ears and neck area. Get all your supplies needed so you are not struggling to find them half-way through.

Start with an even layer of foundation over your full face, ears, neck, and lips. Females follow pages 4-7 and males follow pages 8-11.

Highlights Female Start with highlights down the center of your nose under your eyes along the jaw line on your chin, a small sweeping motion on the temple, and a highlight on the forehead as shown above. *Try to make arching lines not straight ones. Think more flowing.

Lowlights Female Down either side of the nose (towards the center of the nose keep as straight as pos-sible or it will look like a broken nose). Blend down the side of the nose and the under side of the brow keeping the bridge of the nose with a strong edge. Hollows of the cheek, apply an “L” shape blending down and back. Apply low light to right below the nose to mouth (philtrum), right under the lip blend out, top of the chin (keep the bottom side strong) and right under the jaw line blending down through the neck. Sweeping up from the eyebrow and around the crown of the forehead as shown above.

Blush and Lips Female

Blush should be applied to the apples of the cheek sweeping backwards along the cheek bone. If needed, blend down - never up.

Line lips with a similar color to lipstick; then apply lipstick. Apply setting powder as shown above.

Eyes Female

Eye shadow will be determined by character (see the director if you are unsure).

Eyeliner goes from the inside to the outside on the top and 3/4 of the bottom lid. Mas-cara is applied to top and bottom lashes. Eybrows - fill in the natural eyebrow with pencil.As shown above.

Highlights Male Start with highlights down the center of your nose, under your eyes, along the jaw line on your chin, and along the sides of the temple going straight up as shown above.

Lowlights Male Down either side of the nose (towards the center of the nose keep as straight as pos-sible or it will look like a broken nose). Blend down the side of the nose and the under side of the brown, keeping the bridge of the nose with a strong edge. Hollows of the cheek, apply an “L” shape blending down and back. Apply low light to right below the nose to mouth (philtrum), right under the lip, blend out, top of the chin (keep the bottom side strong) and right under the jaw line blending down through the neck. Then along the sides of the temples and straight up and back and as shown above.

Blush and Lips Male

Apply lipstick to the natural lipline. Apply setting powder.

Eyeliner goes half way on the top and 1/4 of the bottom lid. Mascara is applied to only the top lashes. Eyebrows - fill in natural eyebrow with pencil as shown above.
