Orders/Planning Process1 2 3 4 5

No order issuedFailure to develop any paragraph or restate

essential tasks

Issue W/O and FRAGOs and 5 paragraph order, clearly restate essential

tasks

Analysis of implied tasks and further development of branches and sequels to

plans. Plans published as an output to the targeting

process

Branches and sequels wargamed and published.

All annexes are synchronized. Effectiveness

of planning process is analyzed through design

Composite Risk Management1 2 3 4 5

Not Done

Risks identified but not reduced, no control

measures, process not conducted to standard.

Risk Management (only safety focused) process conducted to standard &

briefed.

Tactical & Safety risk considered and mitigated

as part of the planning process. CRM used

throughout all phases of mission. Risk considered

and updated during mission.

Risk is considered in the AAR and Lessons Learned are incorporated into future

planning.

PCC/PCI1 2 3 4 5

Not conductedNot conducted to standard

or not consistently conducted.

PCC/PCI's conducted to Army Standard by lowest

level leaders

Leaders at every level involved in PCC/PCIs , all

critical deficiencies corrected

Unit is a learning organization and

incorporates lessons learned into PCI/PCC Process

Rehearsals1 2 3 4 5

Not conducted

Incorrect or inadequate rehearsal technique executed; Only baseline tasks to conduct a rehearsal are executed; Subordinate units do not attain full synchronization or understanding of the COA from the rehearsal

Rehearsal technique selected is appropriate based on considerations; Reinforces the unit's task and purpose; scheme of maneuver, scheme of fires, scheme of support, IDs the EMLCOA. Participants are prepared and concise in their briefing. Decision points are identified and recognized.

Discusses higher intent, scheme of maneuver, fires, CSS contingencies, addresses all forms of contact. Enablers and key CS / CSS functions are briefed as part of Rehearsal. Multiple branches of COA are rehearsed and composite overlays are published by staff. OPSEC measures employed.

Rehearsals done at all levels, specific War Fighter Function Rehearsals (Fires, CSS etc.) also conducted. Consideration given to flank unit missions. Key locations and events identified that require CDR, XO, or S3 oversight. Subordinate units achieve complete understanding and synchronization from rehearsal.

ABCS/COP/Graphics1 2 3 4 5

Graphics not used or produced

Graphics not refined to unit operations or not distributed to all ABCS systems and to the lowest level.

Graphics for maneuver, fires, C2 disseminated to TTC level and all ABCS systems; all graphics are consistent across systems/units

Graphics support branches and sequels; include obstacle, SITEMP, and CSS(plus #3)

Unit is using automated graphical updates and consolidated common graphic from bottom up refinement. (plus #3&4)

DA BIG 10 (cont.)

ISR1 2 3 4 5

No R&S planned or conducted. No PIR's, IR's or SIR's. No understanding of tactical questioning

No specified R&S tasks, or not covering higher's TAIs. Sporadic synchronization or coordination. Lack of understanding of use of R&S plan/ISR plan.

Commander has assigned NAI's to answer PIRs, higher's NAIs are covered. R&S plan/ISR plan developed and meets minimal standards WRT effects, synchronization.

Uses NAIs for DST and direct fire planning, tracks NAIs, and refines SITEMP. Synchronized lower to higher

Fully synchronized R&S plan tied to PIR, NAI's/TAI - and fully synchronized higher to lower. Exceeds understanding of utilization of all available assets

Sustainment (CLI, Fuel, V, Maintenance, Medical)1 2 3 4 5

Sustainment functions not performed; Supported units cannot perform mission due to lack of big 3 (CLI/fuel/V); Units Black in 1 or more commodities

Sustainment not performed, Minimal Sustainment planning occurring at BN/BDE/CO level; Unit conducting reactive or just in time logistics; CL I-IX below 50% severe impact on maneuver mission; No LOG SYNC; FSC/SPT PL not tied into the BN movement/patrol plan

Some Sustainment planning occurring; CL I-IX at 50%; use of LOG tools to forecast commodity management being implemented; lack of LOG planning having an impact to BN's mission; Resupply to subordinate units occurring only at last minute; no LOG SYNCH with BDE/BN/COs

Sustainment planning implemented into BN maneuver plan; little or no impact to BN mission; able to sustain life support and conduct resupply missions; use of LOG planning tools for forecasting commodities CLI-CLIX usage/management; resupply occurring at the subordinate level; flow of LOG information from COs to higher FSC/ALOC via FM/SIPR/VoIP with some prompting from higher; LOG SYNCH occurring with BDE/BN/COs but without synchronization

Sustainment planning implemented into BN maneuver plan; no impact to BN mission; Conducts resupply missions that are nested into the BN daily movement matrix; Able to sustain the BN and conduct forecasting of all commodities CL-CLIX; Proactive LOG occurring, stockage OBJs met; LOG Planning tools in use; Resupply occurring at the subordinate level; flow of LOG information from COs to higher without prompting from higher occurring; daily LOG SYNCHs with BDE/BN/COs providing the necessary information to forecast logistics

Direct Fire Planning & Execution1 2 3 4 5

No apparent deliberate direct fire plan

Plans direct fires, but plan does not demonstrate the ability to fully focus, distribute, or shift overwhelming mass of direct fires due to shortcomings in the fundamental principles.

Unit meets the standard: Unit plan effectively accounts for the 8 fundamental principles of direct fire control according to standards listed below; in execution, focuses, distributes, and shifts the overwhelming mass of direct fire capability at critical locations and times.

Unit meets the standard, plus planners are strong in planning principles. Execution of the direct fire plan is exceptional at adjusting to battlefield conditions and capitalizes on speed, surprise, and shock.

Unit meets all requirements for Level 4, plus understands where they succeeded and failed/ how to improve for next engagement.

Security & Force Protection1 2 3 4 5

No Plan

Security drops below required level, unaware of compromise, information improperly labeled

Designates plan, maintains security; patrols conducted, sectors assigned. Information labeled and stored properly

Adjacent unit coordination, designates QRF, Info security actively verified, leaders check

QRF rehearsed and incorporated into plans, and meets/or exceeds callout standards, cameras incorporated and monitored, active external patrols.

Equalizers are O/O to provide direct and continuous support to ourselves, 588 BEB and 3 ABCT Headquarters while operating in a Decisive Action Environment. We know the Army values and live by them. When support is required we act with speed; the enemy will not have the upper hand; we will surprise the enemy and react with violence. We alone enable the Battalion and Brigade to Shoot, Move and Communicate. There is no vehicle that we cannot fix and no distance we cannot move. No Soldier in 588 BEB will go hungry, go without fuel in their trucks, ammunition in their weapons, or be left broken down on the side of the road in a foreign country. We are Soldiers, tasked to slay the enemies of Freedom. But we are more than that, we are Mechanics, Cooks, Transporters, Fuelers, and Ammo Handlers…

We are the Equalizers on the Battlefield.
