Congregational Meeting At the request of the Church Council, a congregational meeting was held on

Sunday, July 12 following worship. The purpose of this meeting was to vote on

the final disposition of the tithe from the Charles W. Benfer Estate that was

authorized at a congregational meeting last November. A letter explaining the

Church Council’s request was mailed to every active member of the congregation

on June 26.

The congregation passed a motion to designate the remaining tithe to Lutheran

Disaster Response (a ministry of the churchwide organization) and toward the

creation of a locally administered Beaver Lutheran Church Disaster Fund. The All

Saints Committee will be the custodian of the church’s Disaster Fund.

‘Called to Be a Living Voice’

As I write this I have the privilege of attending Called To Be a Living Voice, a joint conference

between the ELCA and the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians (ALCM). The conference is

being held in Atlanta, GA and will draw approximately 800 musicians, pastors and other worship

leaders from across the church.

Of course, a tremendous gift of this time together is to worship as church, as people gathered

from congregations large and small, urban and rural, new and long-standing, Lutheran and other

expressions of Christian identity. Tonight we will worship and I am singing in a choir for the event.

We’ll sing music from across the globe and across the centuries, with organ, bells, oboe, drums and

a gong! Tomorrow will be led by an ensemble of guitar, drums, violin and piano. The next day, by a high school-aged

woodwind quintet. We celebrate the diversity of musical expression as we sing and worship together.

From workshops on children’s choirs to forums on the African American Spiritual and plenaries on vocation, it has

been a rich conference thus far. I am thankful for the opportunity to be refreshed and renewed and look forward to

ministry with you when I return.

Blessings!

Jennifer

Our group was part of the announcement on Sunday!

They held up red paper while the city of Houston was named as the next Gathering site.
