Beauty and the Breast: A Documentary

Bernard Poulin, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the engineering company S.M. Group International Inc., in Montreal, is also the executive producer of Beauty and the Breast, a documentary about breast cancer. Directed by Poulin’s wife, Liliana Komorowska, the film traces the life stories of nine survivors. Their tenacity and courage appealed to Bernard Poulin as well.

For her first documentary, Komorowska interviewed a spectrum of women in various stages of diagnosis, treatment, and remission. One woman, Danuta, has just learned of her diagnosis and explores various

options. Another, Kathleen, has had three cancers by age 27. A third woman, Amba, decided to investigate alternative medicine after a mastectomy. 

Several venues have exhibited in the film, including the Montreal Film Festival, where it won Best Documentary. The London Film Awards honored it with the Best First-Time Director and Grand Jury
