The Beautiful Life Celebration is an event closest to my heart for many reasons, because we are paying a special tribute to the Filipino American communities for their achievements.

I bow to their professionalism, community service, and dedication in setting the high standard for their positive contribution in our society.

Our 2012 distinguished awardees are really to be commended for their commitment to quality in their respected fields of endeavors. They are outstanding because they put their heart and soul into their passion.

Our lovely queens and beautiful girls, are all women of substance, they very much deserve recognition.

I have always said that even though this was not established as a charitable foundation, we do give what we can to the worthy causes.

I wish to thank everyone who’s been part of the show this year. Without your help and support this event would not be possible.

GANDI VILLAREALAcupuncture, Beauty and WellnessGandi is a pioneer in the skin care industry in the Filipino-American community and is popularly known as the “Beauty Goddess”. Gandi, who is a licensed aesthetician with a master’s degree in acupuncture and oriental medicine, has been in business for 18 years. Her very successful career is marked with numerous awards that validate her expertise in beauty and wellness. She is an advocate of natural beauty, wellness and longevity which has endeared her to a varied clientele.

With acupuncture, people are so amazed with the rejuvenating and natural healing effects that they experience. Celebrities, stars and those who have tried her acupuncture sessions are happy to learn that it is safe, painless and effective. LIZA DINOPerforming ArtsLisa is a film, tv and stage actress who has appeared in numerous films for both independent and commercial acting studios in Manila. She is a BA Speech Communication graduate from University of the Philippines (UP). She joined Mutya ng Pilipinas beauty pageant and won as Mutya ng Pilipinas-Tourism International in 2001.

In 2008, Liza decided to move to the US to build a family and pursue her culinary aspirations. She is presently working as a line cook at SPAGO Beverly hills, owned by the famous TOP chef Wolfgang Puck.

In November of 2011, Liza won her first international acting award for the psychological thriller film COMPOUND which competed in the 2011 International Film Festival Manhattan New York.

JONA M. PERALTAMusic EducationJona always had a passion for music. At the age of 6, she discovered her singing voice, thus, became the youngest member of an adult church choir. She pursued excellence in her craft by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music in the Philippines. As a proof to her hard work, she became the Philippine delegate for the Suzuki World Conference in Sydney Australia in 1995 and Cincinnati Ohio U.S.A. 1999.

As recognition to the giver of her talent, she has joined some social and religious organizations, WHO’S WHO of CAMBRIDGE and Couples for Christ (CFC) USA, to impart this gift. At present, Jona is serving as the CFC Music Ministry leader together with her spouse Erwin Peralta. In recognition of her passion for music and teaching, she was recognized as “Celebrity Chronicle Pasinaya Vocal Coach of the Year” in 2008.


OLIVIA QUIDO-COBeauty & AestheticsOlivia Quido-Co, known also as MS.O , is the owner of O SKIN CARE both in Eagle Rock Branch and Artesia branch. For over 9 years experience, she has completed numerous post graduate courses from the American Institute of Esthetics, International Dermal Institute, Visual Changes Academy, and John Robert Powers International. She is a Business Administration graduate from De La Salle University, Philippines.

A-List of Hollywood celebrities (like Grammy Award winner Patty Austin and Ms. Telma Hopkins), photographers and makeup artists have relied on Ms.O ‘s innovative facial rejuvenation. She has been making waves as a skin care specialist that offers topnotch products and up-to-date facial machines. The company is staffed with competent experts who have been duly trained to perform their responsibilities.

LORAINE DIEGO, MDGynecology & ObstetricsLoraine graduated in USC with a BA Psychology and received her medical degree in Chicago Medical School. She originally planned for a career in Pediatrics, but then decided on Ob/Gyn because this is the ultimate in Pediatrics – she cares for a child from the very beginning, at the cellular level, when it first is given life from God. She tells aspiring students who want to be a doctor that she loves what she does because she gets paid well to “just do the right thing.” She simply tries to help someone who is sick to feel better. Thus, if she can sum up her life into two mottos, it would be: “Try to do the right thing” and “If others can do it, so can I.”

She’s married to a wonderful Korean and they have two awesome young sons. When she looks at them, she can see her eyes looking back at her with love.

ROMAN MOSQUEDALawDr. Roman P. Mosqueda holds a graduate degree in law, Doctor of Science of Law (SJD) in product liability from the University of Michigan Law School and has published a law book on the subject in the United States, Philippines and Europe. He is a licensed attorney in California, New York, and the Philippines.

In pro bono work, his law firm represented the Filipino World War II veterans in their federal suit seeking the unconstitutionality of the “rider” of the 1946 rescission Act, to restore their veteran benefits. He was the recipient of the Community Service Award of the Filipino American Service Group, Inc. (FASGI) in 1995. He served as President-elect of the Philippine American Bar Association of Los Angeles in 1994-1995, and became its President in 1995. Today, Attorney Mosqueda volunteers as at a local church legal program to assist the needy with legal help.

CORA ARAGON SORIANOCommunity ServiceCora has an active and varied background in community service. She believes that by contributing her abilities towards the greater good of her community, she can make a difference. Between 2002 and 2008, she held increasingly responsible positions in the Toastmasters International, Inc, where she made a difference by mentoring members and future leaders on communication and leadership programs.

Promoting and preserving the Filipino cultural legacy, heritage and tradition and the spirituality of serving in church ministries are important goals for her. She serves as President of the Los Angeles Filipino Association of City Employees (LAFACE); President of the Filipino Catholics of Holy Name of Mary (FCHNM), Board Member of Philippine Independence Executive Council, Servant Leader of the Filipino Ministry of the Archdiocese of LA for the past six years. She also served as Past President of St. Paul Alumnae Association.

VIC PEREZConcert DirectorTo those in biz, Vic Perez’ name is synonymous with some of the biggest and most successful concerts to have been staged in Los Angeles and other key cities in the U.S. He is a concert director, publicist and marketing whiz who has directed the biggest and brightest Filipino artists such as Regine Velasquez, Martin Nievera, Pops Fernandez, Gary Valenciano, and Leah Salonga to name a few.

Other than directing concerts and handling artists, Vic Perez’s talents include corporate marketing and doing publicity spins for various businesses in LA.Very soon, he will be dabbling into TV production, not anymore behind the scene. This time he will be visible onscreen. He is soon going to host a TV show he has conceptualized billed as “Showbiz Express.”

MYLAH DE LEONJournalismMylah de Leon was press secretary and public relations director to the Mayors of Quezon City for 17 years, but was writing on the side- hence, her essay style column was, and is called “Moonlighting.” An excellent interviewer, she wrote cover stories for the Manila Sunday Times Magazine, Manila Bulletin (features) Daily Express magazine, Evening Post, and Focus, where her publisher-editor, Kerima Polotan, called her “a poet writing in prose” – and that she can make her columns sing. A Philosophy and Letters graduate from the UST (Manila) she joined the Phil Journal Group, where as a police reporter, her crime stories had the range that contributed to a different perspective of seeing and interpreting crime reporting. She was former Editor in Chief of the defunct Philippine Times and currently writes a regular weekly column for Asian Journal Midweek Magazine. Her late husband was Francisco de Leon of the LVN movie clan.

AMY CABRERA GILL, RN, BSN, CHPNHealthcare ServicesA remarkable woman, Amy has always considered nursing and healthcare as more than a career, but as a vocation. In addition to her involvement in the healthcare industry, Amy has also remained committed to giving back to the community. Her hospice agency has sponsored over 40 immigrant workers to obtain their legal status and citizenship in the U.S. She is also a strong supporter of various charitable organizations all over the world including amfAR (Americans for Aids Research), Not on Our Watch (George Clooney’s fund for aid to Darfur), World Vision and other church organizations as well as several local hospitals and charitable donations.

Indeed, Amy Cabrera Gill has truly earned the honor of receiving the Nightingale Award as she continues to share her passion for training, educating, and protecting patients’ rights by advocating for them and providing excellent patient care, one patient at a time.
