Re. Next Steps. The two key next steps are:

1. Set up a communication strategy

2. Set up a long-term delivery process

Highest Beaminster Future to convene a meeting with BTC and Yarn Barton to address the two key next steps.

'# New housing should be prioritised as affordable homes for people who wish to live or work in the area

93 7 High Taking account of the high percentage agreeing with this statement, the Steering Group feels that action is required here. One suggestion for a way forward is to conduct a Housing Needs Survey in Beaminster; this would better inform all concerned, including residents, when participating in development consultations. Housing needs survey Community consultation on all development plans. Investigate the feasibility of setting up a Community Land Trust in Beaminster.

KEY REFERENCE POINTS Page 1 of 6

Key Reference Statements 2013 version6.doc

The statements listed below, whilst not lending themselves to definitive action, set out a number of Community expectations. Wherever change is proposed that impinges on one or more of these expectations then the Community will have a view and expects full and proper consultation to take place before proceeding. In a number of instances, see below, certain clarification of the current situation would benefit general awareness and it is recommended that those responsible consider what might be done to improve that understanding. It is also the case that changes already drafted and under review (example #1) impinge on these expectations, in which case comment is made to that effect against the relevant statement. !"#" $%&%'(')%" *"

83 17 High Consultation involvement Whilst the role of the Steering Group has been to reflect the views of the community, as expressed in the questionnaire responses and comments, we cannot ignore the fact that the currently proposed WDDC development plan to 2031 is a prime example of this particular statement. In addition to the views expressed by Beaminster residents as part of the consultation process, the whole community clearly expects the WDDC to also take full account of their response here.

BTC should act on behalf of residents to ensure that key communication from organisations outside of Beaminster, such as WDDC, are effectively received. Questionnaire comments indicate that many residents are less than satisfied with the current effectiveness of BTC communication.

96 4 High This is a prime example of a service which residents judge to be operating effectively and where no changes should be made without full consultation first. That boat however seems to have sailed as the following announcement confirms. WDDC’s new waste partnership comes into operation 1st April 2013. The expectations are that “new, improved recycling and rubbish collection services will be launched in West Dorset in 2014/15. Current proposals suggest this new service will include: A weekly food waste collection A fortnightly collection of glass, card, paper, plastics, batteries, tins and cans A fortnightly collection of left-over non-recyclable rubbish. Residents will also be able to pay for a fortnightly garden waste collection. Much of this seems to be in line with residents’ comments, however, the detail must be communicated by BTC.

AcknowledgementsThe production of the Beaminster Parish Plan would have been quite impossible without the help of a large number of people.

The unstinting efforts of the steering group were fundamental in shaping and guiding the task from the outset: Nathalie Roberts, Mollie Baldwin, John Spooner, Steve Norris, Jim Holden, Terry Caveney, Philip Elliott, Richard Barker, Dominic Faulkner.

The questionnaire and its analysis was helped on its way by the experience of Alaina Cameron and John Snow.

Brian Cocks drew cameos of Beaminster buildings that became the logo for Beaminster Future.

Proof reading the report and offering a valuable view from outside was down to Rachelle Smith, Caroline Montagu and Maria Clarke.

Clipper Teas printed posters and leaflets and kept us refreshed at Open Days.

Dorset Retail offered premises, again for the Open Day in the Square.

Thanks also go to Beaminster Town Council for presenting this opportunity to the community, and letting them get on with it.

Lastly, we remember Roger Priddle, an enthusiastic member of Beaminster Future, whose jolly demeanour and incisive comments informed our meetings.

Mick ReadChair, Beaminster Future
