Beadwildered’s 5th Annual
Beadwork Retreat Friday 19th April to
Sunday 21st April 2013
Here are all the sparkly beadwork workshops on offer at Beadwildered’s 5th
Annual Retreat. Returning to the lovely Gartmore House (on the A82 near
Aberfoyle), we will bead from Friday through to Sunday.
NEWS FLASH: the Friday workshops were so popular last year we have now
included them as part of our Programme! Beadwildered’s retreat officially
starts at 2pm on Friday 19th, but you can join in at any point over the
weekend.
Have a good look in here to find out more and if you have any questions,
please call retreat co-ordinator, Sarah Longfield at ‘Mrs Magooty’ on
07958 582902 or email [email protected]
You will be taught by experienced local bead artists in the
wonderfully peaceful surroundings of 18th century country mansion,
Gartmore House in Loch Lomond National Park. Set in 75 acres of
peaceful grounds, the house has 23 ensuite double, twin and family
bedrooms and there is also a cottage in the grounds sleeping around 5
people. Beaders staying the cottage or sharing with more than one
other get a 10% discount plus a £10 voucher for the onsite beadshop.
There are a 3 half day classes on Friday afternoon, 3 on Saturday
morning, 3 on Saturday afternoon and 3 full day classes on the Sunday.
On the booking form, you will be asked for your first, second and (for
Saturday) third choices for each day/half day. The classes will be
allocated on a first come first serve basis.
Your class choices will be confirmed in the new year and materials lists
will be emailed/posted out in January so you can start shopping!
All food is included in the Retreat fee: breakfast; lunch; dinner and
some excellent morning and afternoon cakes to keep the beading energy
up!
A £50 deposit is required to secure your booking and the full fee by the
end of February 2013.
How it all workS...
Friday 2pm ClasseS African Helix Taught by Sheena Stevenson

twisted triangular rope with fire polished crystals
and size 11s. No experience needed.
Scarf Ring Taught by Mary Carbine
Using a range of beads you will learn the simple
technique of creating a scarf ring that can be
easily adapted to a whole host of other pretty
things!

This class will take you through the Chevron technique
creating a glamorous necklace using size 11 seed beads
and nine small groups of 5mm crystals and contrasting
size 11 seed beads.
Saturday Morning classeS Galaxy Bracelet Taught by Mairi Carlton

experience needed) Swarovski star crystals are
secured in a frilled netted bracelet of seed beads,
embellished with a few small bicones. There is a
flower garden version available too.
Linked up Bracelet Taught by Brenda Waugh
Using odd-count herringbone, you will create
an easy to wear bracelet with a truly
ingenious fastening.
Goddess Bracelet Taught by Aileen Dickie-Adams
Elegantly curving around your wrist, this simple but
classic bracelet combines cubes, crystals and bugles.

simple change of colours you can create a whole new
look!

striking flower pin is created in Peyote.
Perfect for brightening up any coat or
jumper, this little pin will get everyone asking
where you got it from!
Crystal Honeycomb Bangle Taught by Diane McDonald
A pretty bangle using size 11s worked in Right
Angle Weave. embellished with 3mm Swarovski
crystals and wrapped around a silicone band. A
little embellished cog finishes the bangle off,
securing it’s bling credentials! It can be made to
fit any size of wrist—just measure the widest
part of your hand!
Saturday Afternoon classeS Constellation Necklace Taught by Mary Carbine
This gorgeous necklace is made up of peyote stitch
elements and can be made using larger or smaller
beads (both size 15 fanatics and those that hate
‘dust’ can join in here!!). You can create a rope of
your own choosing to suit or perhaps ribbon or cord.
The class will explore other ways of using the pieces as well.
Friday & Saturday Evening Some people (like me) see Gartmore as a chance to maximise on our
beading and intend to only put our needles down for cake, so are quite
happy beading through the evening. I understand though, that this isn’t
for everyone! This year there is the opportunity to bead or just chat on
the Friday after dinner. On Saturday we are hoping to have a special
guest for a talk/demonstration as well as our infamous quiz—it’s all en-
tirely optional—please just do what suits you.
The bead shop will be open throughout the weekend and you can open a
tab if you desperately need to shop when I’m not around. As is tradition,
I will also have the mystery kits ready for the intrepid on Saturday eve!
Sunday all day ClasseS Herringbone Excellence Taught by Alice Campbell
With a focal point of a Swarovski Rivoli, this
bracelet/cuff incorporates 3 strands of
herringbone connected with 3mm and 4mm
Swarovski bicones.
Return to St Petersburg Taught by Sheena Stevenson
The centrepiece is a large Swarovski navette bezelled
with delicas and 15s. Attached to this are 2
chains made with bicones, 11s and 15s in St
Petersburg stitch. Prior knowledge of Peyote is
needed for this class.
Jewelled Pendant Taught by Mairi Carlton
Using ladder stitch, 6 dazzling Rivolis are encased in
bugles, seeds and Swarovski crystals to form a jewelled
cube pendant suspended on a beaded chain with a
Ladder and Square stitch clasp. Prior knowledge of
Ladder, Square & Right Angle Weave would be useful
