Being Respectful Being Safe Being a Learner at OPS…….. Be SUNSMART Wednesday MAY 20, 2020 FLEXIBLE and REMOTE Learning Principal Report “Make the most out of it.” The Home Learning packs and Google Classroom on-line learning approaches of the last 5 weeks has provided varied OPPORTUNITIES to share work and see what students have completed in their posts, their work handed in and group discussions together. This has been so important as there has been a lot of learning for our staff as well. Regular review, reflection and sharing of the achievements to celebrate but also of the issues to resolve has brought our COMMUNITY together through this time. This has been possible due to the great contributions and perseverance of supportive families at home, and our students who are ‘making the most out of it.” The value for our students of strong links between school student and family has never been more important. Our families now have a better ‘first hand’ understanding of their children as learners and our teaching strategies, programs and expectations to help them improve. We want this to continue. Please continue to share with your teachers - What are you proud of? What are you excited about? What are you worried about? Our school will provide all students in grades 4, 5 and 6, PLUS all families with the opportunity to review and feedback their views on the remote and flexible learning period via OPTIONAL on-line surveys later this term. All schools are now starting to consider how to comply with a fair and equitable report of student learning during this time. DET guidelines of an abbreviated report will be followed and distributed to parents at the end of the term. I hope you enjoy our student input in this newsletter – these are some great examples of continuity of learning at OPS. Principal Report “Make the most out of it.”

The Home Learning packs and Google Classroom on-line learning approaches of the last 5 weeks has provided varied OPPORTUNITIES to share work and see what students have completed in their posts, their work handed in and group discussions together. This has been so important as there has been a lot of learning for our staff as well.

Regular review, reflection and sharing of the achievements to celebrate but also of the issues to resolve has brought our COMMUNITY together through this time. This has been possible due to the great contributions and perseverance of supportive families at home, and our students who are ‘making the most out of it.”

The value for our students of strong links between school student and family has never been more important. Our families now have a better ‘first hand’ understanding of their children as learners and our teaching strategies, programs and expectations to help them improve.

We want this to continue. Please continue to share with your teachers -

this time. DET guidelines of an abbreviated report will be followed and distributed to parents at the end of the term.
