PROUD PARTNERS
WELCOME, CHAMPIONS FOR CHANGE
Today, we recognise the contribution that thought leaders make in their pursuit of diversity and inclusion principles. Championing the banner of change, these leaders and experts are paving the way for diversity and inclusion best-practices, and sharing their learnings with you.
Themes of culture, age, gender, LGBTIQ, mental health, Indigenous employment, innovation and workforce flexibility will be covered over a diverse range of thought-provoking, topical and – importantly - impactful sessions that will inspire and enlighten you.
The program has been developed in consultation with AHRI’s Diversity and Inclusion Reference Panel, a group of leading experts in the field of diversity and inclusion management.
We invite you to talk to those around you and share your ideas and perspectives – after all, a diversity and inclusion conference should be as diverse and inclusive as the content within it.

INCLUSION IS STRENGTH Kurt Fearnley has spent a lifetime chasing his hopes and dreams on the sport-ing field. Seeing the world open up for people with disabilities refining their craft through the Paralympic movement has been one of his greatest joys. The movement has challenged misconceptions and offered a window into a diversity of experience. That experience has made the sporting landscape better. That’s inclusion.
A setting that opens up to allow diversity in, and offer mutual learning and respect. Kurt will share his journey within that movement and the lessons learnt along the way.
KURT FEARNLEY AO

OLDER WORKERS: PROBLEM OR POTENTIAL?
As we live longer and healthier lives it is crucial to be able to continue to work – it’s good for business, for individuals and the economy.
But age discrimination remains an issue, tied to damaging, dated and inaccurate ideas about older workers. A 2018 joint survey by AHRI and the Australian Human Rights Commission found up to 30 per cent of Australian employers are reluctant to hire workers over a certain age, and for many, that age was 50.
It’s not all bad news, though and there is plenty that HR professionals can do to leverage this valuable cohort.
DR KAY PATTERSON AO
Age Discrimination Commissioner, Australian Human Rights Commission

THE AHRI DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION MATURITY MODEL: ALIGNMENT AND APPLICATION
Getting the design and practical execution of diversity and inclusion strategy is heavily linked to an organisational context - Opportunities, challenges and alignment to business purpose.
The AHRI Diversity and Inclusion Maturity Model, developed by the AHRI Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Panel addresses right priorities at the right time. Join three diversity and inclusion experts, and members of this panel to review the model itself, the support it provides HR practitioners in all contexts, and examples of this model coming to life in real businesses.

WALK THE TALK – UNITING’S LOCAL AREA COORDINATION PROGRAM 20% DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT STRATEGY Uniting’s purpose is to ‘inspire people, enliven communities and confront injustice’. To do this, the Uniting Local Area Coordination (LAC) program would take a bold step of setting a 20% disability employment target.
By taking this bold step, the LAC program had the opportunity to influence the sector to ensure people with disability gained meaningful and open employment. This also gave the program the opportunity to shape and shift the community and perceptions of people with disability, moving away from ‘we will help you’ to ‘we welcome and include you’.
This session will help you find out how the Uniting LAC program achieve the 20% disability employment target, and the steps the program took to achieve this.

WORKING BEYOND BOUNDARIES TO BUILD CULTURAL COMPETENCE Through the Working Beyond Boundaries program, Parks Victoria and AMES partnered to engage CALD communities at Werribee Park in training and employment pathways.
As a result, new recruitment practices that supported consideration of more diverse applicants were developed, candidates were better skilled in park management and could demonstrate this through selection processes and cross-cultural competence amongst Parks Victoria employees was enhanced.
This approach is being shared to strengthen relationships with other CALD communities to build a diverse workforce and provide opportunities for CALD communities to enjoy Victoria’s special places.

WE ALL NEED TO BELONG – BEYOND THE D&I COMPLIANCE BOX Australians love property, and many weekend BBQ conversations are supported by Domain Group’s market-leading tech offerings. Based on significant market success, in late 2017, Domain became its own entity on the ASX (formerly Fairfax), and used this milestone to reset culture and leadership, designing D&I as foundational to their DNA.
Using Virtual Reality experiences and a Privilege Index to start a very different conversation. They sought to create openness and understanding of the richness of the unique individual lived experiences of the Domain Team.
The program, left them deeply connected to their personal role in inclusion, every day, because put simply, we all need to belong.
