On 6th April, raining at home, we trav-elled to Cuba for the long-awaited trek. How absolutely amazing it turned out to be, beholding treasures that filled us all with amazement.

None of the trekkers could believe

the welcome they had from the

locals, the truly informative guides

with their humour and intelligence

regarding all that Cuba had to

offer, past and present. Our five

day trek over the Escambray Mountains encoun-

tering undulating terrain, beautiful waterfalls hid-

den in the tropical jungle with coffee plantations

in abundance.

Every day had been a new experience, chatting

to those in front and behind, carrying those heavy

rucksacks full of water, but truly having a full day

of sore legs and laughter. Evenings were hot and

sticky, but certainly not short of a tale or two, with

more input from Janet, our guide,

donning a presentation map for

tomorrow.

Our collective funds raised a

staggering £50,000 all of

which will go towards the Breast

Cancer Clinical Trials charity at The Princess

Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust.

We thank you all for your continuing support,

your generosity truly makes life-changing differ-

ences.

By popular demand our next Cuba trip will be in

March 2015.

Fundraiser Spotlight

A fantastic adrenalin-filled time was

had by all at our amazing White

Water Adventure day at Lea Valley

White Water Centre on 9th May.We were out in force with four rafts full of thrill

seekers. Following in the footsteps of

our gold and silver Slalom Olympic

2012 British medallists working in

teams to battle this difficult and infamous course.

Despite being battered by the waves and getting

soaked, there were

lots of smiling faces

to be seen, many

asking ‘Can we

do this again next

year?’

The day concluded

with a BBQ on our

own private terrace

which overlooked

the course. A luxury

hamper was won in the raffle by Princess Alexan-

dra Hospital staff member Michelle Richardson

who came to support her husband and ended up

being dragged in a raft to join in – what a great

sport!

Two of the rafts were filled with a group of ex-

tremely courageous girls kindly rounded up by

longtime supporters of the char-

ity, Jacqui Clarke and Tracie

Coster-Stratford. Needless to

say, lots of screaming and laughing could be

heard around the route. The event raised a whop-

ping £3,750.

Summer on the Water

A wonderful evening was had at our Summer

boat party which set off from Ware Town Quay

cruising through lovely countryside to Hertford

Lock and back again.

There were two boats,

in total carrying over 90

guests who enjoyed the

glorious weather.

The boats cruised through Kings Mead nature

reserve, host to many beautiful wildlife species

including 119 types of birds including ducks,

gulls and waders

and over 265 kinds

of wildflower.

Guests enjoyed a delicious

cold buffet by Chicks Cater-

ing of Dunmow and drank

prosecco and Pimms.

The event raised £1,600 in total and we have

already had requests for tickets for next year!

So it looks like it could be an annual Summer

event for our calendar.

Thank you to all who attended and made the

evening such fun.

Local Sawbridgeworth business-

man, Dinesh Patel, has very gen-

erously donated a whooping

£6,000 to the Clinical Research

Trials Unit at St Margaret’s Hospi-

tal, Epping.Mr Patel has supported the Clinical Trials Unit for

many years raising funds by, climbing Kiliman-

jaro, Escambray Mountains in Cuba and walking

the Inca Trail. He has also kindly donated raffle

prizes for many of the different fundraising func-

tions held by the charity.

Breast cancer survivors were

among the 50 runway stars who

strutted their stuff at a glamorous

event at Rhodes Arts Complex in

Bishop’s Stortford. The sold-out show, with clothing and accessories

from local boutiques, was the second hosted by

Sally Darmody, the owner of Church Street salon

Heads You Win. Sally, 49, said she was particu-

larly proud to see her two daughters, Rebecca,

23, and Katie, 20, take to the catwalk in front of

a 300-strong audience, adding: “It was brilliant.”

Dotmatics Limited make BCCT the

recipient of their monthly £1000

charity donation.

Every month, a charity, chosen by a randomly

selected member of staff, is picked to receive this

generous donation.

In May, Account Manager Lauren Dodd chose

The Epping Breast Unit due to the wonderful way

they treated her Aunt when she was diagnosed

with breast cancer 15 years ago.

Dotmatics are based in Bishops Stortford and pro-

vide computer software solutions to the pharma-

ceutical and biotechnology industries, enabling

scientists involved in drug discovery to work more

efficiently.

The 3 Crazy Mares ran, rode (and

did a tiny bit of cycling) 240 miles. From Kings Lynn to Frinton, taking in the Norfolk,

Suffolk and Essex coast line, we ran the 40 miles

a day (we had to cycle some due to an injury or

two) and Vic rode Miley 30/40 miles! During the

challenge, I think we all had personal highs and

lows as it was the biggest endurance test any of

us had taken on! (We even got Vic running; she

did 20 miles over two days.) Each day we ran

for people that inspired us. Those that are fighting

breast cancer and those who are unfortunately no

longer with us!

Thank you everyone that supported us with our

fundraising and along our journey!

Yvonne Martin, Lisa Pearce and Vivienne Ed-

wards, for the third successful year, have organ-

ised a great day for the 64 golfers who attend-

ed. As usual, a drinks buggy, with the traditional

beers and chocolate on board, kept everyone

going. There were many prizes this year in the

competition, set at selected holes, including, at

the 11th where Suzanne Wollard and Sarah Ker-

shaw were offering a 5* golf package donated

by Golf Board. Dinner was followed by comedian

Aaron James who, hysterically, took hold of the

the auction. Yvonne, Lisa and Viv have received

fabulous feedback with next year’s date already

booked – Friday 8th May 2015. Thank you to

everyone who helped on the day especially NTS

Premier Services Ltd for winning the trophy. The

money raised makes a huge difference to cancer

patients lives.

Breast Cancer Charity Golf Day

The sun shines yet again for the Breast Cancer Charity Golf Day raising

a staggering £14,000 at Hertford Golf & Country Club on 16th May.

Peters and May Charity Clay Pigeon Shoot

Peters & May held its annual Clay

Pigeon Shoot on Friday 6th June at

Pennsport Shooting School, West

Berkshire.Guests were treated to a stunning day of shoot-

ing, whilst their generosity enabled Peters & May

to raise a considerable amount of money for the

charity. Dave Holley, CEO of Peters & May com-

ments, “Everyone here would like to thank those

who attended the shoot, not only for their gen-

erosity, but for their spirit and company on what

turned out to be a great day. Breast Cancer Clini-

cal Trials is delighted with the amount of money

raised, which will help them to continue with the

great work that they are doing, and we look for-

ward to adding to the amount in the future”.

Peters & May staff were joined in their sup-

port of BCCT by clients and suppliers total-

ling 52 shooters, who fired approximately

40,000 cartridges over the course of the

day. In addition to the shoot, P&M held an auc-

tion which included items signed by the artist

Pure Evil, a full team signed Southampton Foot-

ball Club shirt, a half day charter on a Sunseeker

Camargue 50 and a corporate sailing day with

members of RYA Team GBR and Mike Golding

OBE. A combination of the exceptional quality of

the auction lots, number of desirable raffle prizes,

and the generosity of the guests, enabled P&M to

beat its fundraising target of £10,000.

Peters & May is continuing

to find innovative ways

to raise money for Breast

Cancer Clinical Trials,

and looks forward to an-

nouncing its next idea in

the near future.
