The Industry at a Glance

• $10 billion in revenue for 2013 - Apple iTunes App Store

• $15 billion earned by iOS developers since 2007

• Google Android marketshare and app revenue is also rapidly increasing

BCIT @ App Store

• The only BCIT app on the iTunes App Store is the Evolution 107.9 radio app.

The Competition

• UBC is the leader in mobile apps with multiple apps on iTunes and Google Play.

• SFU and Langara also have apps.

Mobile Development Curriculum

• Limited curriculum. Program dependent. A few weeks at most.

• Part-Time studies has a Mobile Development course and option, but enrolment is limited.

• Minimal iOS curriculum. Some Android depending on option. Large focus on Windows Phone.

BCIT Mobile App Development Club

• The goal is to develop mobile apps

• Teach students how to make an app

• Help them develop an app and publish it

• Improve their portfolio and gain industry skills

• Increase interaction between schools

• Increase BCIT brand in mobile world

Teach students how to develop mobile apps.!Seminars and workshops!Focus on iOS and Android

Pitch Day

• Startup incubator style

• Pitch your app idea to an audience of developers, artists, and business students.

• Interested students can self-assemble into app project teams.

• App Project teams determine their own schedules and goals.

Industry speakers

Mobile developers invited to share their expertise and hands-on experience.!• Android developer from SAP

Research scheduled for March 5, 2014.

• Future goal: Develop the business aspect around mobile app development.

• Students in other schools like business, health sciences, construction, energy, broadcasting, etc may have ideas for apps.

• They can team up with computing students to build an app that they want to use, and that perhaps that they can sell.

• App Projects - Coding, Graphic Design, UI Design

• Business Development - Ideation, Marketing, Public Relations, Sales, Support
