Thank you to everyone who helped out this month — Stephanie Yeager and her great team who put on a terrific obstacle course (see pp.2-3), Paul Kern for leading a nice ride in Yellow Fork (p.8), Doris Richards for arranging the Sandy Pride Day Clean Up, and the generous members who helped, Jo & Steve McDowell for contributing an article on their recent exploits for the newsletter (p.6). I’m sure you have heard about and share my concerns about the equine herpes virus (EHV) outbreak. This is a serious virus that is highly contagious from horse-to-horse. Although the state veterinarian has not specifically recommending cancellation of any horse related activities, please be aware that organizers of our rides may choose, at their discretion, to cancel, adapt, or reschedule rides this month or until the virus appears to have run its course in Utah. Please watch your email or contact the ride organizer to make certain each event will take place as planned. One good website to keep abreast of the status of the virus in Utah is the Utah Dept. of Agriculture (ag.utah.edu) where the state veterinarian has been updating the EHV reports daily. And to see how even our youngest cow- pokes (cowgirls in this case) have demon- strated the true spirit of horsemanship in the face of EHV, check out the KSL report of the young contestants for the Davis County Sheriff's Mounted Posse Junior Queen Con- test who left their horses home and com- peted on stick horses. These are classy young women who put their horses’ health first. Jo and I got back Sat night from a really fun trip to Ireland. Rode English saddles for 8 days and even did a little jumping. Not bad for an old guy, Here are some horse shots. You have seen a couple of these but one is Castle Leslie where we stayed (Paul McCartney got married there) and it has incredible cross country courses with over 300 jumps and wonderful trails. Most all their horses jump and they are in great shape. Another photo is a mus-tached horse and we saw sev-eral. They made us wear riding helmets that looked like Nazi army helmets. Check out my Texas jod-furs. We also stayed at Mt Juliette a n d r o d e t h e r e . — Steve & Jo McDowell
