Statistic: 40% of gangs are juvenile

Who are in Youth Gangs?

Both boys and girls are active in youth gangs (360,000 are boys, 32,000 girls were involved in gang related activity)

Gangs are formed in rural and urban areas

Formed especially in large cities such as Los Angeles and Chicago.

Worldwide in Central America and Asia

What are gang signals?

They are visual or verbal symbols members use to identify affiliation

Forms such as tattoos, graffiti, and hand signs are common

The symbols sometimes represent their culture

What is the violence like?• Violence in school occurs

frequently due to gangs• Assaulting rival gangs or

members• Violence in school increases in

cities such as Cleveland and Delaware
