THE STORYLINEWith the last week before Thanksgiving upon us, there’s no more pretending that this isn’t the biggest game of the season. Big Sky Champion Montana brings a perfect 10-0 record to Bozeman, along with a 7-0 league mark and its 12th straight conference title, for the 109th Cat-Griz game, which suddenly holds considerable meaning for the Bobcats. At 7-3, Montana State needs another victory to boost itself into post-season consideration. Montana has won three straight in this series.

FOR OPENERS Montana State owns eight consecutive winning seasons, one campaign shy of the lon-

gest such streak in school history (1956-64) The Bobcats are 23-4 when positive or even in turnover margin since the beginning of

2006, but just 5-14 when fi nishing a game negative in turnovers. Montana State has trailed in fi ve of its seven wins in 2009

STADIUM STUFF Montana State fi nishes the year with a 3-2 road record, clinching its fi rst winning sea-

son away from home since the 4-2 road campaign in 2006 Montana State’s fi nal 2009 record on natural grass will stand at 2-2

BIG SKY BULLET POINTS Montana State continues to lead the Big Sky in rushing defense (81.2 yards per game)

300 GamesMark Iddins and Cody Kempt have each thrown for 300 yards in a game this year. The only other such season in MSU his-tory was 2006 (Jack Rolovich and Cory Carpenter each had two 300-yard days.)

Turnover of a Different SortJason McEndoo has begun each of his seven seasons as Bobcat O-line coach with a different lineup than that with which he fi nished spring drills. This year’s lineup change came when Jeff Miller failed to gain academic eligibility, moving Leo Davis into the lineup. Still, McEndoo has presided over one impressive streak of consistency. For 33 straight games, guard Jeff Hansen and tackle Mike Person have lined up side-by-side on the right side of MSU’s offensive line.

Sixty-Yard DashEverett Gilbert has MSU’s two longest scrimmage plays of the season, receptions of 60 and 49 yards.

The Rush on RushingMSU’s late-season surge has moved the team into second in the Big Sky in rushing since a season-low 42 yards vs. NAU:Date Opponent Rushes Yds10/17 South Dakota 36 14310/24 Eastern Washington 41 19210/31 Idaho State 42 23611/7 Portland State 47 18511/14 Sacramento State 35 127

Some Fresh OffenseRob Ash’s commitment to build his program with freshmen has born fruit in his three seasons at MSU. Everett Gilbert broke MSU’s one-year old freshman re-ceiving (DeSean Thomas) record, and the school’s all-purpose yardage record. The trend holds on defense, as well, where true frosh Darius Jones (3.5 tackles-for-loss, three pass breakups) and Brad Daly (nine tackles, two blocked kicks) have shone.

Different Paths to the Same EndRob Ash said at the outset of 2009 that he expected his team to run the football successfully even without a presence such as Demetrius Crawford. The results have borne him out:Year Rush Leader MSU YPG BSC Rank2009 567-Aaron Mason 153.6 2nd2008 1,314-D. Crawford 175.3 1st2007 868-D. Crawford 115.8 7th

A Long Way to GoSince stepping into the kickoff role in MSU’s third game, Jason Cunningham has produced nine touchbacks and three other kickoffs that pinned the opponent inside the 20 on his 39 kickoffs. Idaho State started four of its eight post-kickoff drives at or inside its own 20-yard line.

Mackey-DaddyMackey Nolan, a redshirt through three games of his true freshman campaign, stepped in for ill punter Eric Fisher at Northern Colorado and averaged 36.6 yards on seven punts, pinning NC inside the 20 twice. At Eastern Washington, against subbing for an ill Fisher, he aver-aged 41.0 yards on four punts.

Punter PinsEric Fisher forced opponents to start inside their own 20-yard line a league-best 22 times in 2008, and has pinned the foe deep 12 times in his eight‘09 games.

Long Distance KickingJason Cunningham is the only Bobcat to nail two 50-yard fi eld goals in one season.

Long Distance PuntingEric Fisher’s 77-yard punt against Dixie in ‘09 tied the sixth-longest in MSU history. He hit three 50+ yarders at Weber, two more against NAU, and has 12 this year.

King for a DayIn spite of MSU’s Homecoming loss to Weber State, Eric Fisher will always remember October 11, 2008. He averaged 40.3 yards on six punts with a long of 53 and pinned WSU inside the fi ve twice. To cap the day, Fisher became the fi rst MSU gridder named Homecoming King.

Block PartyFrom 1999-2006, Montana State blocked a total of eight kicks, and in MSU’s re-corded history has topped four blocks in a season only twice (six in 1990, and nine in 1984). Here is a look at the block-party-on-wheels that has been the Rob Ash Era: Blocked Blocked Blocked Total Punt FG PAT Blocks2009 3 1 1 52008 4 1 1 62007 1 3 0 4Total 8 5 2 15

More on BlocksMSU has allowed six blocked kicks in the last two seasons, fi ve by FBS schools. Sac State is the FCS school to block a Bobcat kick in the past two seasons.

Fletcher’s Two-TimingDane Fletcher became the fi rst Bobcat since 1988 (Rob Pouliot) to block two kicks in one game at NAU in ‘08. Fletcher blocked a quick kick for a safety and a punt that MSU’s offense turned into a TD.

Game-WinnerJason Cunningham’s third fi eld goal vs. Northern Arizona in 2008, a 38 yarder with 1:24 to play, marked his fi rst college game-winner. He tied the USD game in 2009 with a 21-yarder in the last minute.
