Hexham Abbey News Volunteers Congregation Staff 14th July 2019 Sheila Keenleyside, Abbey Steward Originally from Yorkshire, I moved up to the North East to study Business & Design. I liked the area so much that I decided to stay. I have worked in a range of settings including 7 years in HMRC, 11 years in the NHS, 13 years in education. Currently I am an Administrator for a Childrens Charity in Newcastle. In my spare time I am an Advanced Driving Tutor and the Treasurer for the RoSPA Advanced Drivers and Riders Group in Tynedale. I love driving and being able to help our group members develop their driving skills and watch them progress is very rewarding. Over the years I have been fortunate to travel extensively to many countries including India and China. I love visiting new places and learning about different cultures. I also enjoy live music, the theatre, walking, reading, gardening and spending time with family & friends. I have enjoyed my first few weeks as a Steward at Hexham Abbey. Like many of our visitors I find this historical building completely fascinating and so very peaceful. It is an honour to be part of this community, thank you to everyone who has made me feel so welcome. Messy Church, TODAY, 3pm The theme for todays session is creating & caring and will focus on looking after each other, ourselves & our environment. Meet on the Cloister Lawn (or Great Hall if the weather is poor!) Hexham Holiday Club Opening Service Join together ecumenically for the Opening Service of Hexham Holiday Club 2019 at the Bandstand in the Sele Park on 21st July at 10am. Please note there will not be a 10am Parish Eucharist service in the Abbey. Big Thank You from Dagmar While I shall be leaving Hexham with a heavy heart, I am also full of gratitude to you all for the wonderful last 10 days - it was so lovely to see many of you at St Paul's for my consecration, and then you gave me a most amazing and incredibly generous send- off last Sunday - wonderful cakes and cards, words and gifts. Saying 'thank you so much' really doesn't capture it sufficiently. Thank you for all your encouragement and support. Praying for continued blessing on all of you at the Abbey, congregation, staff and volunteers, that you may continue to be a blessing! Dagmar. Choral Evensong over the Summer Please note that the Choir will break for the summer period after Choral Evensong on 14th July and return on 4th September. This will mean that Evening Prayer at 5pm will take the place of Choral Evensong. Progressive Supper On Saturday 21st September there will be an Abbey Progressive (Safari) Supper. Full details next month but in the meantime, anyone wishing to sign up or requiring more information please speak to, or e-mail Brian at [email protected].
