    ADVISERS MESSAGE 02

    Dear Residents,

First, let me thank everyone for your strong support that has made it possible for Bukit Batok East (BBE) toorganise so many programmes and activities to meet your needs. My grassroots leaders and I continue towelcome any ideas and suggestions that you may have to make BBE a more vibrant, connected and activecommunity. In my house visits, I had met many residents who are very appreciative of the work that we do and

have also made many constructive and useful suggestions on how to further improve life in BBE. I welcome allthese suggestions and I look forward to even more engagements with our residents.

I had held one Town Hall meeting with residents at the Toh Guan area, and I intend to hold more suchmeetings to engage residents. Residents can also meet me at my Meet the People Sessions which areheld six times a month; four every Monday at block 241 Bukit Batok East Avenue 5 and two for the rsttwo Fridays at Block 208 Jurong East. Residents are also free to approach me at any of the eventsthat I attend in your areas, as well as email to me directly at our Jurong GRC website. I also welcomeviews from you when I do my weekly house visits.

I take your feedback seriously. For example, many residents living at blocks 288 - 289A-G Bukit Batok St 25 (Nature View estate) asked for additionalbus service number 106 because this service is very crowded during the peak morning hours. I took this matter up with the LTA and the SMRT and I amhappy to inform you that the SMRT has agreed to add an additional bus service 106 sometime in October this year to cater to the increased demanddue to the opening of the WCEGA centre. Residents living near that area also complained that it is difcult to cross the road because of the very heavytrafc. After my representation, the LTA has agreed and has started work on building a signalised pedestrian crossing. Residents living near the MRTtracks had also asked for measures to minimise the noise originating from the railway tracks. The LTA is currently doing a nation-wide study and theyhave agreed to include the areas in Toh Guan affected by the noise as part of their study.

I will continue to work hard with my grassroots leaders to look at ways to improve BBE. We will continue to take care of the needy in our constituency.Needy residents can get help from the Comcare Fund. In addition, every year, we raise thousands of dollars to provide bursaries, subsidised tuition, ang pows for the elderly, food packs, book vouchers and other help for our residents. We will also focus on bonding the community together to createa strong BBE Family.

I wish all our Muslim residents Selamat Hari Raya Aidiltri and all our Hindu residents Happy Deepavali.

Mdm Halimah YacobAdviser to Jurong GRC Grassroots OrganisationsMinister of State, MCYSMP for Jurong GRC

SourSopThe Sour Sop was reported to possess strong anti-cancer effects. Althoughit is effective for a number of medical conditions, its anti-tumour effect is ofmost interest. The Sour Sop tree is called graviola in Brazil, guanabana inSpanish and has the uninspiring name "sour sop" in English. The fruit isvery large and the sub-acid sweet white pulp is eaten out of hand or, morecommonly, used to make fruit drinks, sherbets and such. Besides being acancer remedy, graviola is a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent for bothbacterial and fungal infections, is effective against internal parasites andworms, lowers high blood pressure and is used for depression, stress and

    nervous disorders.

The sour sop is said to:* Attack cancer safely and effectively with an all-natural therapy that does notcause extreme nausea, weight loss and hair loss

    * Protect your immune system and avoid deadly infections* Feel stronger and healthier throughout the course of the treatment* Boost your energy and improve your outlook on life* What's more, unlike chemotherapy, the compound extracted from theGraviola tree selectively hunts down and kills only cancer cells. It does notharm healthy cells

Various parts of the Graviola tree, including the bark, leaves, roots, fruit andfruit-seeds, have been used for centuries by medicine men and nativeIndians in South America to treat heart disease, asthma, liver problems and

arthritis. Going on very little documented scientic evidence, a companypoured money and resources into testing the tree's anti-cancerous properties--and were shocked by the results. Graviola proved itself to be a cancer-killingdynamo. .... A study published in the Journal of Natural Products, following arecent study conducted at Catholic University of South Korea stated thatone chemical in Graviola was found to selectively kill colon cancer cellsat "10,000 times the potency of (the commonly used chemotherapy drug)Adriamycin."

A study at Purdue University recently found that leaves from the Graviolatree killed cancer cells among six human cell lines and were especially effectiveagainst prostate, pancreatic and lung cancers.
