Pryce Jones born in Newtown 1834 . He opened a draperyshop and then the Royal Welsh Warehouse. It was Jones'
ideas which led to the promising beginnings of the first mailorder business in the world.

Before the river was dredged out as part of the FloodPrevention Scheme it occasionally used to freeze over inwinter. This picture was taken just upstream of the Long
Bridge in the winter of 1962-63.

Newtown's shops used to close on Thursday afternoons,which allowed the shop assistants time to play football. This
is Newtown Half Day Football team in the 1930s.

Newtown Bowling Club has been on its present site since1922. This match against Northampton took place in 1976.

Melia's grocery shop used to be in Market Street. The pictureis undated but the prices suggest no later than the 1930s.
