A MESSAGE FROM YOUR

Page 11: Baylor University Panhellenic

Dear Potential New Members,

I am honored that you have chosen to go through this Recruitment experience atBaylor University. As a Freshman, I never expected to join a sorority. None of myfamily members have attended university in the U.S., let alone were apart of Greeklife. I am sure some of you are feeling sheer excitement, and others may be slightlyoverwhelmed. I want each of you to know that your worth is not defined by the"letters" you may gain or how many chapters invite you back each day. Being a part ofthe Panhellenic community is a beautiful opportunity that I hope all of you will beable to experience. However, it is not the only opportunity for you to build communityduring your time at Baylor. My prayer for each of you is that you feel encouraged andinspired by the women in our chapters. My unsolicited advice is to view recruitmentas an opportunity to connect and learn from the people around you. I am rooting foreach and every one of you!

Best,

BlairPanhellenic President@blairb_

How does recruitment work?

Values-based recruitment is somethingwe strive to focus on in our Panhelleniccommunity. We emphasize academics, equality, inclusion, and service -- and weencourage you to be conscious of thesevalues throughout your own recruitment experience. We also encourage you toconsider which chapters have valuesthat align with your own as you movethrough the recruitment process.

Page 19: Baylor University Panhellenic

How does this work?

Mutual selection recruitment meansthat both chapters and PNMs havethe opportunity to speak to who theywould like to see the following dayof recruitment. This selection processallows for both the PNM'spreferences and the preferences ofthe chapter to be taken into account.

Page 20: Baylor University Panhellenic

Recruitment counselors, referred to as Gamma Chis, arePanhellenic undergraduate women at Baylor who have beenhand chosen from their chapters to serve you throughoutrecruitment week. They have your best interests at heart andare available to help you during the week of recruitment byserving as an impartial and confidential listener and friend.

During recruitment week, each PNM will be placed in aGamma Chi group, which will be led by at least two GammaChis dedicated to the support and guidance of their appointedwomen. Since these Gamma Chis understand recruitmentfrom the perspective of the PNM and their chapters, theirsupport is invaluable. Additionally, the training that thesewomen receive during the fall semester will help them serveour community to the best of their ability!

Letters of Recommendation WHAT ARE

LETTERS OFRECOMMENDATION?

A letter of recommendation (alsoreferred to as LOR, REC, or RIF)is a letter or statementrecommending a woman formembership. A LOR is written byan alumna member of a sorority. This serves as your introductionto the sorority, so their memberscan get to know you in advanceof primary recruitment in thespring. It is sent to the specificBaylor chapter that the alumna isaffiliated with.

ARE LORS REQUIRED?

Baylor Panhellenic does notrequire that PNMs have LORS.Individual sororities may havespecific requirements.

HOW MANY LORSDO I NEED?

We recommend that PNMs haveone recommendation per chapterthat requests LORs. Having morethan one WILL NOT necessarilyincrease your chances of joiningthat sorority. It is 100% okay ifyou can't find a recommendationfor every chapter!

DID THE SORORITYALUMNA HAVE TO GO TO

BAYLOR?

Nope! She could have been in thespecific sorority from any school. The alumna does need to be ingood standing with the sorority!

WHEN SHOULD YOUSTART ASKING FOR LORS?

ASAP! Summer is a great time toreach out to alumnae.

Page 37: Baylor University Panhellenic

Letters of Recommendation WHAT IS THE

DIFFERENCE BETWEENA LOR, LOS & RIF?

LETTER OFRECOMMENDATION (LOR)

A personal letter written by analumnae endorsing you formembership in their chapter. Thisis the primary documentthat our chapters look for.

LETTER OF SUPPORT (LOS)A LOS is generic, supplementalword of support. An alumna cansend another letter to speak toyour character as it applies toleadership, scholarship,

community service, and friendship. The individual writing the LOSdoes have to be an alumna of thechapter.

RECRUITMENTINFORMATION FORM (RIF)

This is a “fill-in-the-blank” type ofdocument that can be found oneach chapter's headquarterswebsite and can be accessed bythe alumnae.

MOST IMPORTANT TO KNOW:Every chapter has different viewson LOR, LOS, and RIFS. Makesure to check the requirementsfrom each individual chapter.

WHEN ARE LORS DUE?

There is no official deadline forLORS! But, we HIGHLYencourage you to get all LOR,LOS & RIF submitted beforeThanksgiving Break! Chaptersneed time to read and organize allof these!

Page 38: Baylor University Panhellenic

Letters of Recommendation WHAT IF I DON'T KNOW ANYALUMNA THAT WERE IN A

SORORITY?

That's 100% okay! Most peopledon't! Here are some simplesteps you can do to find some:

STEP ONE

Post on FB and let your familyfriends know that you are lookingfor LORs for our nine chapters!Have family members share thispost for you, expanding thesearch.

STEP TWO

Reach out to your high schoolteachers, church, youth groups, coaches, neighbors, people in yourcommunity, etc.! They may knowsomeone who is a sorority alumna!

STEP THREE

Most major cities have an alumnichapter FB page for each specificsorority! Message their pages &ask if someone will write you aLOR! As well, reach out to yourlocal or major city PanhellenicAlumnae groups. You can findthese by googling your city +Panhellenic alumnae.

Provide the alumnae who arewriting your LORs with a copyof your resume, transcript, andexactly where the Baylorchapter wants it sent to!

Give the alumna at least amonth to write your LOR!

Make sure to send a thank-you note to the alumna thatwrote your LOR!

For example, "Dallas PanhellenicAlumnae".

The Membership Recruitment Acceptance BindingAgreement (MRABA), is a one-year binding agreementsigned by a potential new member when rankingchapters after the final round of Preference eventsduring the Formal Recruitment process. Prior to signingthe MRABA, PNMs have several options to consider andreflect on with regard to membership options.

MRABA

Page 41: Baylor University Panhellenic

MRABA Options OPTION # 1A PNM may choose not to completethe MRABA, thereby withdrawingfrom recruitment. If a PNM choosesthis option, she is eligible to accepta bid for membership from anysororities participating in ContinuousOpen Bidding (COB). However,COB is not guaranteed. A smallnumber of sororities may be able torecruit a limited number of womenthrough the COB process afterprimary recruitment, if their chapteris below Panhellenic Total (i.e.Average Chapter Size).

OPTION # 2A PNM may choose to list any sororitywhose preference event she attendedand from whom she is willing to acceptan invitation to membership (a bid).PNMs should NOT rank any sorority onher final selection that she is absolutelynot willing to accept a bid formembership. If a PNM matches with asorority that she listed on her MRABA,regardless of whether she accepts theinvitation for membership or not, she isbound to that sorority for one calendaryear (January 2022-August 2023), andis not eligible participate in COB oraccept a bid from another NPC chapteruntil the next primary recruitmentperiod.

OPTION # 3A PNM may choose to list only one ortwo preferences, but she mustunderstand that by choosing to singleintentional preference that she is notguaranteed to receive a bid formembership. Only potential newmembers who maximize their optionsand list ALL of the chapters that theyattended during the PreferenceRound might receive a bid formembership, although it may not betheir top choice. If a PNM does notreceive an invitation to membership(a bid) from any of the sororities thatshe listed on her MRABA, then she iseligible to participate in ContinuousOpen Bidding (COB).

Page 42: Baylor University Panhellenic

MRABA QuestionsWHAT IF I RECEIVED A BID DURING RECRUITMENT AND HAVE SINCE

DECIDED TO DECLINE IT?

If, at the conclusion of formal recruitment a PNM receives a bid to a chapter that shelisted on her MRABA and later decides to declines, she is still bound to the chapterfor one year or until the next primary recruitment period, meaning she cannotparticipate in COB and/or accept a bid for membership to another NPC sorority.

Page 43: Baylor University Panhellenic

Bid Promising is communicating via social media, texting, verbally, etc., witha potential new member implying that they will receive a bid for membership.Bid promising is not tolerated by the Baylor Panhellenic Council as nomember should be promising membership.

A few examples of bid promising are:"(insert chapter name) would love to have you.""Don't worry, you are already in.""We/I can't wait to see you on Bid Day.""You would look great in (insert chapter colors/letters here), etc."

If you hear of bid promising or if you are promised a bid, we askthat you let the recruitment team know ASAP.

Be relaxed, be yourself, and have fun!Form your opinions on chapters based on the conversations you have with individual members! Avoid makingdecisions based on material things such as chapter décor or clothing.Disregard rumors that you hear and make decisions based on your own feelings and experiences you haveduring recruitment— it’s the best way to ensure you are happy with the chapter you join 3.5 years later!Don’t be pressured to join a particular chapter because of a parent, sibling, friend, significant other, orcompanion.Report anything that violates your PNM Bill of Rights or makes you feel uncomfortable to the Panhellenicrecruitment team. You are entitled to having an enjoyable recruitment experience, and anything that keeps youfrom doing so is something that Panhellenic should be aware of to ensure that it doesn’t happen in the future. When a report is filed, your name will not be noted.Keeping notes will ensure that you make fully informed decisions throughout the week!Have personal downtime and don’t let yourself get burned out too quickly! Recruitment is a long week, and youshould give yourself free time.Keep your opinions about recruitment and specific chapters to yourself in order to not impact another person’sselection process.
