Whether you have lived in San Francisco for many years, are a newbie or visiting the city, this tour will provide you with exciting new insights about San Francisco’s green businesses — and it comes with a view, too!

The Waterfront Tour will bring participants to some of San Francisco’s premiere businesses, within a nice stroll from each other . This carbon-free tour provides a unique perspective on how relevant sustainability is to San Francisco, and how local business incorporate “green” into their mission . Tour guests will meet leaders behind the scenes and learn what makes their operations environmentally friendly .

Since buildings account for a large percentage of carbon emissions resulting in climate change, this tour highlights information about features that can dramatically lower their ecological footprint .

On this engaging and lively tour, participants will meet leaders of the sustainability movement, witness how positive solutions can be put in practice, and learn how to lower their carbon footprint . They will go behind the scenes and visit local pioneering, high-impact models of environmental responsibility . This popular tour features a variety of cutting edge green paradigms in downtown Berkeley, such as: a sustainable restaurant, bike station, rooftop community garden, e-waste recycling business, and LEED certified office or school building.

Moveable Feast A sustainable progressive dinner

Gather, connect with friends, family or colleagues and learn about sustainable food while you dine! The Moveable Feast is a unique walking tour visiting three model sustainable restaurants located with-in blocks of each other . During this intimate progressive dinner, participants enjoy leisurely networking while savoring locally sourced delicacies . Inspiring presentations by award-winning restaurant owners and chefs include information about Slow Food, Slow Money, local farms and food sources .

The Moveable Feast can be arranged for private parties, companies, groups and associations . We would be pleased to arrange a private Moveable Feast for your next special occasion… birthday, anniversary, reunion, work retreat, etc . This tour offers an insider’s glimpse into the fine craft of local cheese making. Participants visit goat, cow and sheep dairies and explore barns, milking parlors and cheese making facilities, while touring in a comfortable motor coach through the stunning Marin and Sonoma countryside . They will have an opportunity to engage in dialogue with farmers and cheese makers, and also with a representative from the Marin Agricultural Land Trust which works to preserve farms in the area . All featured stops use sustainable farming practices and sell their products to local markets and restaurants . Tour guests will taste and purchase products on site, and have lunch on the farm or at a beautiful picnic place en route .

Sustainable Wine & Cheese Tour

Participants will visit a sustainable or biodynamic Bay Area winery, enjoy a vineyard tour, taste and purchase wine, and engage in dialogue with the wine maker on the management of sustainable vineyards and its effects on the wine. While touring a sustainable goat, cow or sheep dairy, they can sample and purchase fresh cheese, learning from its producers about sustainable farming and the fine craft of cheese making. Tour guests will have lunch at one of the tour stops or at a beautiful picnic spot en route .

Sustainable Farm& Agriculture Tour

Participants will spend a day touring a variety of scenic farms and hearing from the farmers about cutting edge sustainable agriculture and the important role of agricultural land trusts in protecting farmland from urban development . They will have an opportunity to enjoy stunning views of the landscape, and to buy fresh produce directly on site . During this exciting and educational day in the beautiful surrounding countryside, tour guests will have lunch on a farm or at a beautiful picnic place en route .

Participants will visit city farms and experience how they contribute to a more vibrant and healthy community . Tour leaders will provide tips on cultivating an urban garden, as well as information about how to get involved in the local urban farming scene .

The Bay Area is a hotbed of social and sustainable entrepreneurs, with business pioneers working on creating an impact locally and internationally, and burgeoning support systems encouraging growth in this sector . This tour, of special interest to people involved in or interested in starting their own sustainable or socially responsible business, will visit some of the leading social enterprises, highlighting their definition of success and the impacts they aim to achieve. It will focus on illuminating answers to questions such as: What is social entrepreneurship, and how are “social” entrepreneurs different from other entrepreneurs? Tour participants will visit both promising start-ups and well- established businesses, hearing stories from the experts about how they got started, and how they came to achieve success .

Participants will learn about social entrepreneurship, student run projects, and high growth, high wage jobs in a variety of sustainable fields.

Shared Solutions:Community Space Tour

The confluence of the economic crisis, environmental concerns, and the maturation of the social web is giving rise to an exciting economic trend called the “Sharing Economy,” harnessing the power of local communities to build a more financially and ecologically sustainable future. The sharing economy, or collaborative consumption, is a growth industry with exciting career opportunities, as well as a new field of study and practice providing answers to some of today’s biggest questions.

This truly unique tour highlights some of the innovative local initiatives which have developed around sharing workspaces, living situations, transportation modes and more . Participants will meet with leaders in the field, tour their facilities, and learn about how sharing maximizes economic resources, minimizes ecological impact, and builds community.

Alternative Transportation Tour

Conventional transportation technologies usually involve the use of fossil fuels for vehicle propulsion . Climate change caused by carbon emissions has led to increased awareness and interest in alternative means of transportation and technology . The Bay Area is the hub of many innovative organizations and companies creating alternative transportation solutions. On this tour, participants will meet pioneers in the field and learn about possibilities to lower their own personal carbon footprint by using alternative means of transport .

Renewable Energy tour:Sun, Wind & Water

Renewable sources of energy - wind, solar, hydroelectric, tidal, geothermal and biomass - are essential alternatives to fossil fuels . Their growth stimulates employment, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, diversifies our energy supply, and reduces our dependence on unreliable and volatile fossil fuel markets (in particular oil and gas) . The Bay Area is home to many pioneering organizations and companies in the renewable energy field. This tour provides contacts and firsthand insights into these innovative businesses, as well as information about forward thinking initiatives that create energy solutions and jobs for a greener future .

Water of course is precious and scarce, especially in California, and this tour provides information about how the impacts of climate change pose challenges for water supply and flood management. Participants will explore creative water management solutions and find out about ways to lower their own water consumption .

Tour guests will meet innovators responsible for keeping tons of reusable materials out of the landfill, and experience how waste is transformed into valuable products . This tour includes visits to: a transfer station, an architectural salvage facility, and other models of creative re-use and recycling .
