NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE

Geoff Hastings

Uniform Shop It is great to see it fully open. It is the ONLY shop in Bathurst where you can get ALL the necessities for the complete Bathurst High uniform. This includes the now required fully navy shorts and track suit pants. We also have the full formal uniform if students wish to wear that. Not only that but a portion of all sales goes back into the school through our lease agreement. The uniform shop will be open in the week before school starts. Ceremonies I have really enjoyed all our ceremonies that take place at this time of the year. Congratulations to all our students who have been recognised by their teachers for their performance throughout this semester. Thank you to Mrs Browning for her won-derful organisation of Presentation Night and to our Year Advisors for their work in putting together the Commendation Ceremonies. HSC 2010 This newsletter precedes the release of results on Wednesday 15th December but we will have our informal morning break-fast of sausage sandwiches and fruit juice in Hope St. This usually starts on the morning the results come out at about 8.15 am to 8.30 am and it is a great chance for the students to get together with their teachers. Our Careers teacher, Mr Crawford, will be available to give advice to the students. Safe Holidays Finally could I publicly express my thanks to the students, parents, teachers and support staff of Bathurst High for their ef-forts throughout 2010. I wish the students a safe and restful holiday and especially wish the very hard working and commit-ted staff a well earned, refreshing break. I look forward to the Bathurst High learning community once again swinging into action in 2011.

Art Express  ‐ Congratulations Ffyona Morgan‐Thomas

Congratulations to year 12 Visual Arts student,  Ffyona Morgan ‐Thomas, whose work has been accepted for the 2011 ART Express. ART expressis the showcase for the most outstanding pieces of HSC art work. Only 400 pieces out of a total of 10,000 submitted works achieved this great hon‐our. Ffyona’s sculptural work explores the experience of  war through the use of found objects, wooden crates and small wire figures.

“My work is about my Great Aunt, Mrs Murray, and her three sons who served in World War One.

The boxes symbolise both the psychological strain of being trapped by the events of war and the physical elements of confinement.

The figures and the objects within, represent the three soldiers and their individual experiences.

The excerpts of text come from letters and historical documents salvaged from family archives.

‘Dear Mrs Murray’  is an ode to the Murray Family, and every family that has been ravaged by war.”

Jim Browning Deputy Principal Senior School

News From The Senior School

Year 12, are well into their HSC studies and most have completed or are in the process of completing their first HSC assessment task. Parents are reminded to keep the assessment book handy and that all tasks should be placed on the Denison College Wall Planner that the students completed in roll call this term. I hope the Wall Planner is in a prominent place in the students study area and that it assists them in their forward planning for 2011. Students should be able to access Syllabus documents from the Board of Studies website and they can use these to ensure their notes are in order and that all dot points of the syllabus have been covered. This is extremely important if students have missed lessons through illness, sporting or cultural commitments or work placement. It is also hoped that some revision in all subjects takes place over the holiday break. The Year 10 End of Year Celebration Dinner at The Carrington Function Centre on Tuesday night was a great suc-cess and all students who attended had a fantastic time. There was excellent food and entertainment and a wonderful slide show by Joshua McGrath and Kim Mason of the last 4 years of their life at Bathurst High Congratulations to Maresha Downey and Cassie Burt for their wonderful organisation as Year Advisers and the com-mittee of Year 10 students who assisted in the planning. Special thanks also to Mark Sullivan and his team at Carring-ton and the staff who attended the celebration. Peer Support training was put to the test on Tuesday for the Year 7 2011 Orientation Day and the Peer Support Lead-ers from Year 10 conducted campus tours, answered questions and escorted the new students to demonstration les-sons. I would like to extend my Best Wishes for a Safe and Happy Holiday and I will see you all again in 2011.

UNIFORM MATTERS Hi everyone! Yes we have opened! The Uniform Shop opened on Tuesday night just in time for Year 7 Parent Information night. We had some of our students perform a great fashion parade to show off our new uniform. I have had some great comments on how fantastic the new uniform looks. Thank you to those students – they did a wonderful job. A big THANK YOU to the ladies who helped in the shop on Tuesday night- Denise, Darlene, Jenny and Gillian. We were very busy and they all did a great job. I couldn’t have done it without them. THANK YOU! The Uniform Shop operates from the back of the school hall (easy entry through Piper Street). The price list for all uniforms and the extended operating hours for December and January is attached for your convenience. Have a very Merry Christmas and Denise and I hope to see you in the shop in January. Mandy Irwin
