BASTROP CHRISTIAN CHURCH NEWSLETTER ~ OCTOBER 2016 Pastors Perspective The finish line is just ahead. Only a lile further. There is a light at the end of the tunnel! You know what I am talking about. I am talking about all things Christmas season and decoraonsbeing in the stores again! Hahaha! Just kidding. I am talking about the elecon. But you knew that already. I just want to leave you with this encouragement. Come November 8 th , if your candidate of choice is not elected to be our next President, it will be alright, because Jesus is King! Scripture is clear, that all earth- ly governments have been given their power by God (Romans 13:1). Let us never confuse the government s role with the Mission of the church. Jesus is into changing human hearts through His Church not through the rule of law. Outlaw murder and it will sll happen. Outlaw stealing and it will sll happen. The list goes on and on. Humans have a sin problem. Jesus came to fix that through the Church. The role of government is to dole out jusce to people who disobey the law and we desperately need that. But that is not the soluon to the sin problem in our world. I read a story from www.chrisanleaders.com last week that said the fastest growing Church in the world is found in Iran. Surprising? It shouldnt be. If we know our church history, we know that the Church of Jesus Christ doesnt need religious liberty. Just the opposite in fact. The Church is at its best when we have our backs against the wall. When we are hated and persecuted because it is then that we depend upon the power of the Holy Spirit instead of the power of the congress, senate, or president to legislate morality. That dog wont hunt. By all means, go out and vote your conscience on November 8 th and at the same me let us not be deceived into thinking that the results will have any effect what so ever on the promise of Jesus to build His Church on the Rock and the gates of Hades will not overcome it (Mahew 16:18). Keep looking UP! Ben ><>

BASTROP CHRISTIAN CHURCH

NEWSLETTER ~ OCTOBER 2016

Pastor’s Perspective

The finish line is just ahead. Only a little further. There is a light at the end of the tunnel! You know what I am talking about. I am talking about all things “Christmas season and decorations” being in the stores again! Hahaha! Just kidding. I am talking about the election. But you knew that already.

I just want to leave you with this encouragement. Come November 8th, if your candidate of choice is not elected to be our next President, it will be alright, because Jesus is King! Scripture is clear, that all earth-ly governments have been given their power by God (Romans 13:1). Let us never confuse the government’s role with the Mission of the church. Jesus is into changing human hearts through His Church not through the rule of law. Outlaw murder and it will still happen. Outlaw stealing and it will still happen. The list goes on and on.

Humans have a sin problem. Jesus came to fix that through the Church. The role of government is to dole out justice to people who disobey the law and we desperately need that. But that is not the solution to the sin problem in our world.

I read a story from www.christianleaders.com last week that said the fastest growing Church in the world is found in Iran. Surprising? It shouldn’t be. If we know our church history, we know that the Church of Jesus Christ doesn’t need religious liberty. Just the opposite in fact. The Church is at its best when we have our backs against the wall. When we are hated and persecuted because it is then that we depend upon the power of the Holy Spirit instead of the power of the congress, senate, or president to legislate morality. That dog won’t hunt.

By all means, go out and vote your conscience on November 8th and at the same time let us not be deceived into thinking that the results will have any effect what so ever on the promise of Jesus to build His Church on the Rock and the gates of Hades will not overcome it (Matthew 16:18).

Keep looking UP!
