R&D in Basque Country

Basque companies have financed almost 59% of the total expense, and have executed 81,1%29.351 companies carry out technological innovation activities (2006‐2008)Seven basque companies among the 1000 European companies with the highest investment in R&D: ITP, Iberdrola, Gamesa, Faes Farma, Fagor, CAF and Cie Automotive, raising the investment to 239 millions of euros

Innovation in Basque Country

The Basque Country stood at 10th place, in the group of high innovation countries in the EU‐27.Human Resources, Linkages and Entrepreneurship and Economic Effects are the three best dimensions of basque innovation 46,7 per thousand young people aged 20 to 29 are graduates of Science and Engineering and Social Sciences and HumanitiesThe percentage of the population with higher education aged 25 to 64 came to 42.2%Personnel employed in knowledge‐intensive service sectors represents 19% of total employmentMedium and high‐tech exports represented 51,5% of total exports30,5% of SMEs have developed a technological innovation

The diversification strategy for the Basque industry develops four main bets in strategic sectors such as the biotechnology, nanotechnology, renewable energies and electronics for the intelligent transport.
