Divorce Support Group Our Lady of Loreto Church, 12 Ardsley Road, Waterbury

The Separated/Divorced Support Group is a 10 week program to help participants regain balance in their lives. The pain and suffering that accompanies a marital breakup is a shared experience with all who have been in this situation. The group will help participants understand what they are going through and that others have gone through the same things. The group has a maximum of 10 participants in order to insure everyone has the chance to express part of the program. The facilitator has survived divorce and her experiences and education background make her most qualified to conduct the sessions. If you are recently separated or divorced and are interested in attending our meetings or would like to learn more about the program, please contact Barbara at 203.910.1561. All inquiries are kept strictly confidential and all are welcome!! The spring session begins on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in our Parish hall. Classes begin at 6:30 p.m.

Spring session sign-up deadline is March 7th.

Please mark your calendars to attend one of the performances. Maximilian: Saint of Auschwitz is a powerful Catholic multimedia production about St. Maxi-milian Kolbe. Actor Leonardo Defilippis cap-tures the darkness of this troubling time in a visceral and heartfelt performance. The show also incorporates chilling footage from Poland and Germany during World War II. With its message of standing firm in the face of persecution, Maximilian has special signifi-cance for our time.

St. Josephine Bakhita

February 8 International Day of Prayer and Awareness

against Human Trafficking The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the In-ternational Union of Superiors General has designated February 8 as an annual day of prayer and awareness against human trafficking. February 8 is the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, who was kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery in Sudan and Italy. Once Jose-phine was freed, she became a Canossian nun and dedi-cated her life to sharing her testament of deliverance from slavery and comforting the poor and suffering. She was declared a Saint in 2000.

On February 8, Catholics all over the world are encour-aged to pray and raise awareness about this phenome-non. Through prayer, we not only reflect on the experi-ences of those that have suffered through this affront to human dignity, but also comfort, strengthen, and help empower survivors.

Thanksgiving after Communion (Prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas)

Lord, Father all-powerful and ever-living God, I thank You, for even though I am a sinner,

your unprofitable servant, not because of my worth but in the kindness of your mercy, You have fed me with

the Precious Body & Blood of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

I pray that this Holy Communion may not bring me condemnation and punishment but forgiveness and salvation.

May it be a helmet of faith and a shield of good will. May it purify me from evil ways

and put an end to my evil passions. May it bring me charity and patience,

humility and obedience, and growth in the power to do good.

May it be my strong defense against all my enemies, visible and invisible,

and the perfect calming of all my evil impulses, bodily and spiritual.

May it unite me more closely to you, the One true God, and lead me

safely through death to everlasting happiness with You.

And I pray that You will lead me, a sinner, to the banquet where you,

with Your Son and Holy Spirit, are true and perfect light, total fulfillment, everlasting joy,

gladness without end, and perfect happiness to your saints.

Grant this through Christ our Lord, AAMEN.

Shadow Stations of the Cross Presented by the Confirmation Students

at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Come and be inspired by this moving reflection of Christ’s journey to the Cross.

The Pope Francis Center for Renewal “Home is Where the Heart is.”

This week, The Pope Francis Center for Renewal was pleased to witness one of our regular guests moving into his own apartment. While this may seem to be a mundane thing to many people, this guest had a series of misfortunes that led him to take up residence in a shack positioned un-der the Mixmaster in Waterbury. He remained there for almost 3 years. This is hard to imagine on a good weather day, but this guest weathered all the winter storms, blistering cold temperatures, Nor’easter storms, etc., that you can remember over the last three years. Lack of

work, over-loaded social services, personal challenges and crisis, lack of adequate affordable housing as well as the red tape involved with finding emergency help, kept this guest living in a crisis mode for years. The stories this person can tell about being treated like less than an animal would move even hardened hearts. Many landlords would slam the door in his face and say, “We don’t take in homeless people!” Nevertheless, this guest persevered and found a place he could call home. With assistance from the Pope Francis Center for Renewal and the Brian Gibbons Homeless Outreach, this person was able to finally move back into safe place and restart a life that was neglected by poverty for too long. It is hard to imagine people living in third world conditions in Waterbury, but it is the hard, cold reality for many, many people in the Greater Waterbury area. Every one of them has their own story but The Center for Renewal has only one story for them….We say they are all children of God; or as St. Teresa of Calcutta would often say, “They are Jesus in the most distressing disguise of the poor.” We are our brother’s keeper and when one suffers, we all suffer. When one makes joyful progress, we all make progress both as a church and as a society that brags about modern progress. Let us enjoy true happiness by rejoicing with our friends who make progress against all odds with the help of the love of God and his disciples who serve.

Please excuse the scaffolding in the sanc-tuary during the next six weeks. It will be well worth it, I assure you, to see the beautiful Baldacchino, (a one third scale copy of the Baldacchino at the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome) as it looked when the church was dedicated 90 years a g o t h i s c o m i n g M a y .
