Amber E. O’donoghue. Amber O’Donoghue is a sophomore, Economics major, Spanish minor from Chicago, IL. At Spelman, she currently serves as the President of the Honors Program Student Association and HBCU Liaison for Peace and Love AUC. She is a member of the Morehouse Business Association, Spelman Goldman Sachs Leadership Program, and the House of Funk’s Marching Band’s, Mahogany N Motion. Amber is also member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, where she serves as the financial secretary of the chapter. Throughout her time at Spelman, Amber has remained committed to her passion for serving the community, frequently mentoring at Raising Expectations, Inc. and community, frequently mentoring at Raising Expectations, Inc. and Target Hope. She believes passionately that the youth are the future of tomorrow and that you never know how the smallest act of kindness can impact and inspire someone’s life. Her first year at Spelman, Amber was honored with the privilege of representing her class after winning the title of Miss Freshman of the 2011-2012 academic year, where she implemented various academic, social, and fundraising activities aimed at strengthening the bonds and friendships of the class of 2015. During the Summer of 2012, Amber had the opportunity to spend a month studying abroad in Santiagstudying abroad in Santiago, Dominican Republic at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, which she believes has been one of the highlights of her Spelman career. This experience has definitely shaped her global perspective and opened her eyes to the luxuries of a developed nation versus the hardships of a developing one. Brandon sartinBrandon Sartin has been involved in sports since the age of 3. Whether he was involved in soccer, baseball, basketball, track or football, the lessons he learned will benefit him a lifetime. Being a student athlete teaches a person discipline, time management, teamwork, hard work, commitment, and many other positive traits. The skills he has developed through the years, has helped him to help others. Brandon has used his skill sets to work with youth to discuss the importance of balancing academics and athletics. His love of athletics has opened the door for him to speak with middle and high schoolers about the importance of education. When high schoolers about the importance of education. He often tells them that they should use sports to their advantage, but he stresses the importance of taking school seriously. However, they should not strive for the minimal requirements, but yet use their academic and athletic gifts to better themselves and their communitcommunity. Joshua Manley-leeWitnessing the death of both Joshua’s parents humbled him in a tremendous way and placed me in a position where my story and accomplishments can influence the entire world. After his acceptance into the prestigious Morehouse College,Joshua concluded my freshmen year with a 3.81 grade point average, “freshman of the year” award, and “overcoming obstacles” award presented by the Shyne Awards. Along with these accomplishments came a memorable season with the Morehouse Track & Field and Cross Country team. They won the SIAC Conference Championship in Track & Field as well as Cross Country. Joshua represents not only the city of Pittsburgh but also every African American youth across the nation who has experienced a life-changing event and strives to become better than their situation. Cameron Weathers People assume that most Business majors are only concerned about investment banking and consulting. Looking at Cameron Weathers, who is a Sophomore Business Management Major, you would probably think the same thing; however, Cameron strives to be a well-rounded, versatile individual and he has accomplished this through his involvement. By choosing to Minor in Spanish, Cameron has been able to use his fluency to help translate for Spanish-speakers and serve the Hispanic community through numerous service projects. Also, Cameron has been active in various mentorship programs; he is involved in Project in Project Success under the 100 Black Men of Atlanta, helped spearhead the My Brother’s Keeper initiative, which exposes middle school boys to the importance of college and provides them with collegiate mentors, and Cameron serves as a coach for the Graves Hall Step Team. Cameron also pursues his passion for advocacy by remaining a 4 year active in the NAACP. He currently serves as the Director of Economic Empowerment & Co-Special Events Coordinator for the NAACP Youth & College Division of the state of Georgia where he launched his M.O.N.E.Y. (Maintaining our Net Worth & Empowering Our YYouth), a program that emphasized the importance of financial stability and entrepreneurship for youth. She has landed an appearance on the popular Bravo network's show, Real Housewives Of Atlanta featured as one of the finalist to study fashion modeling at The Bailey School of Fashion under the watchful eye of it's owner, world renowned supermodel, Cynthia Bailesupermodel, Cynthia Bailey. She is currently signed in the Atlanta area. Emma J. radiates on the runway and in front of the camera. As one of Atlanta's fresh new faces, she has captured the hearts of Atlanta's fashion and entertainment. At Spelman, she is a member of the Honors Program, the Health Careers Program, and the Alpha Lambda Delta First Year Honor Society. During her freshman year, Breagan merged her love for science with her passion for community service and founded a non-profit organization entitled the FunLab, Inc. By using her creativity to design FunLab experiments, she enjoys the feeling of childlike exploration that first attracted her to science. Breagan vision for FunLab is to teach underprivileged and minority children fundamental scientific concepts to through fun laboratory experiments. In support of her vision, the FunLab is committed to provide an encouraging learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity in its students, co-curricular experiments to give students a more hands-on approach to visualizing scientific concepts learned in the classroom, and materials that support the experiments. The motto of the FunLab is “Making Labs Fun” and partners with M. Agnes Jones Elementary School. Breagan designs each lesson to provide students with a strong foundation in scientific experimentation as well as exposure to science- related careers. Preexposure to science- related careers. Pre-tests and post-tests are given to gauge the children’s mastery of each concept covered in FunLab experiments. The FunLab currently works with 40 students in grades 3-5, and every lesson aligns with the Atlanta Public School grade level standards. Past experiments include learning the scientific method with unknown edible candy samples, plant transpiration, fetal pig dissections, and making an aquarium with fish that glow in the dark.

Through hard work and dedication she has received numerous academic scholarships to attend college. As a student at Clark Atlanta University she holds a position as a residential assistant, which is an accomplishment on its on. She uses her role to inspire and motivate young girls to face their fears and go after their dreams. When she visits her hometown, after their dreams. Jermaine Blakley Jermaine Blakley was born April 13th, 1993 in Meridian, Mississippi. He was born and raised in the small town of Butler, Alabama. He realized that Morehouse College was his calling the first day he stepped on campus. While on campus Jermaine has became heavily involved. Jermaine Blakley serves as the community outreach chair for the Health Educators of Morehouse College. He is a member of the health career society. Jermaine Blakley has recently become a member of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He is a member of Morehouse Biology Club. Jermaine Blakley is currently involved in biochemical research with D research with Dr. Mendenhall in the Chemistry Department. He was most recently inducted into Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity. Jermaine is also a resident advisor in the Living Learning Center on Morehouse’s campus. As an RA he has created many successful programs and started a community service initiative for his residents called Project House. Project House was created to get his residents involved in the community by raising awareness about HIV and STIs in the homeless community. Jermaine plans for Project House to provide health and wellness kits to members of the homeless community, and the initiative will be partnering with Morning Glory Transitional Home. Jermaine Blakley is a member of Blakley is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He is also a member of Peace and Love Atlanta University Center where he serves on the Peace and Love Saturday Committee. Even with being involved on campus, Jermaine currently have a 4.00 grade point average, and he was distinguished as a Top Ranking Scholar his Freshman year. He currently volunteers in guest services on Sundays at Grady Memorial Hospital. Melody ThomasWhen referring to accomplishments, Melody feels that it is not about quantity but quality instead. She feels that her accomplishments are measured by how they impact her work ethic and community. To her it is too often that we see our young black men and women attending college off of athletic scholarships and not academic. Therefore, she is proud to attend Clark Atlanta University on the Dean’s academic scholarship. She feels that we all have talents, which can benefit the community, hers is her brain. It is also her belief that when it comes to success, it is harder to stay at the top once you make it up. Therefore, she is determined to do her best in all of her classes so that she can maintain her scholarshi she is determined to do her best in all of her classes so that she can maintain her scholarship. Melody was recognized as Outstanding Freshman of the Dual Degree Engineering Program. Receiving such recognition as a freshman this provided her with the motivation to continue to excel throughout her matriculation. With there being few African-Americans and even fewer females in the sciences, she feels that she is an example for the community that one is not limited to what he/she is surrounded by. Melody was recently accepted into the Summer Undergraduate Research Engineering/Science Program at the GGeorgia Institute of Technology. She also has plans to transfer to GaTech, so she feels that as a participant of the program she will be better prepared for when she becomes a Yellow Jacket of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Rabiah ElisaRabiah Elisa is a political science major, undeclared Asian Studies minor She aspire to be a political strategist/ consultant and eventually, a foreign service officer; to not only satisfy her needs to problem solve, interact with and engage people and cultures, and utilize people’s resources and skills to their utmost potential but also to fulfill her purpose of being a global citizen, a servant and a leader. The summer following freshman year, Rabiah interned with the Democratic National Committee in the African American Constituency Outreach department. Upon returning to school last semester, she continued to help en continued to help engage and mobilize Spelman students with the election cycle- nationally and in the state of GA- from helping and supporting Spelman SGA and Young Democrats organizations with holding watch-parties for the presidential debates; to registering students to vote; to providing voter registration procedures and laws through literature, word of mouth and social media; to rallying volunteers to assist with local Georgian campaigns for eight key candidates significant to preventing a Republican supermajority in the the Georgia House of Representatives. Donnell Williamson is a sophomore Sociology and Economics double major from Shelby, NC. He has had the pleasure of serving as the Elections Committee Chairman, Hunger and Homlessness Issue Base Coordinator through the Bonner Office of Community Service—a servant leader, Campus News Editor for the Maroon Tiger and has been recently selected to do research this summer at the summer at the University of Chicago. Despite Donnell’s accomplishments, humility is key. He has always put others before himself and unremittingly gives back to the community. A product of a single mother and decease father, success has always been Donnell’s ultimate goal. He hopes to one day become the first African-American male President of an Ivy League institution. He also hopes to find a cure to the social disparities that African-Americans encounter. Donnell’s dreams are endless, but he believes in hard work and effort. One of his Sociology Professors always makes this statement in class, ““Maximize gratification and minimize deprivation.” Donnell refuses to stop working towards social equality and constant uplift until all of these things have been accomplished.

banah GhadbianBanah Ghadbian is an activist, poet, and young scholar raised in Arkansas. She is highly engaged in the Syrian Revolution, a two year human rights struggle—and is known in some circles as “Syria Protest Girl” due to a video she released shortly before the first protests erupted in March 2011. The video went viral and was broadcast on Syrian government television as an example of young “terrorists” overrunning the country with demands for human rights. She won first place in a national essay contest called Hamsa: A Dream Deferred for her entry “Hooray for Hooreya: What Freedom Means for Syria.” In July of 2011, she traveled to Antakya, she traveled to Antakya, Turkey to distribute supplies to refugee camps and to attend conferences building the future government. In August of 2012, she traveled to Jordan where she worked at a Refugee Processing Center, assisting with injured protesters’ surgeries, and translating for Japanese aid workers. She brought her passion for justice in Syria to Spelman through the Social Justice Fellow’s Program Save our Syria: Message in a Bottle Project that raises money for refugees through selling “Freedom” bracelets, sends letters to refugee women and children, creates solidarity vigils and attends Atlanta wide Syria flash protests, while educating campus and building awareness of global issues. When not fighting for global human rights concerns, she makes and sells original jewelry at Market Friday, is producing a documentary, and shares poetry on the internet. Lynesia Taylor is a mathematics major from Kansas City, MO. Lynesia is a Spelman STEM Scholar as well as a Spelman Math Research and Mentorship Program Scholar. Lynesia has done research in Elliptic Curve Cryptography at Texas A&M University, which is the study of breaking cryptosystems using elliptic curves. She currently works in the Spelman College Mathematics Laboratory where she tutors AUC students in mathematics. Helping others in mathematics is one of Lynesia’s passions. Lynesia feels that being able to do mathematics is just as important as being able to read and write. The tools used in executing a math problem are similar to how one would execute a “real life” problem. executing a math problem are similar to how one would execute a “real life” problem. Math is more than just equations and theories. Math is a course that teaches problem solving, logic, and reasoning. Lynesia feels that the lack of these tools is a problem in our community and she plans to become part of the solution. In the fall, Lynesia and other mathematics majors at Spelman College plan to implement a “Math Fun Day” in middle schools in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area. This program will not only inform students on the importance of mathematics but also show the fun in mathematics. After graduating from SSpelman College Lynesia plans to obtain a PhD in applied mathematics. Lynesia strongly believes that "black girls can do math too, so don't underestimate us". Lynesia is a mentor and a role model. She encourages, helps, nurtures, and motivates her students to develop their passion and break barriers. Lynesia shows her students that it is okay to be a smart African American woman in the sciences. Lynesia feels that being able to do mathematics is a gift and therefore she should share her gift with others.

Niya HogansNiya Hogans is a Mass Media Arts major at Clark Atlanta University apart of the Isabella T. Jenkins Honors Program. She was born in Newark, NJ and moved to Durham, North Carolina in the year of 2000. In the 5th grade she played Dorthy in the elementary school play production and from that moment she knew that she wanted a career in the television industry . Since her first break into the spotlight, Niya Hogans has continued to chase her dreams of working in the film industry . She has been a featured extra in different music videos, BET television shows such as "Being Mary Jane", & "The Game ". She also had a feature role in a independent film called "It's not m feature role in a independent film called "It's not me, it's you" where she worked a long side big time actresses such as Vivica Fox. However Niya doesn't only want to be infront of the camera or in the spot light, she also has a passion for production and writing. She has worked on different production sets as an intern where she has learned the skills of producing and directing. Niya is currently working on producing a short film starring some pretty big name stars in the entertainment industry, that she plans to have completed by March, 2014. Principles of service for improving the quality of life for others were inculcated in Bouchra, widely known as Mimi, by the legacy of Mr. Charles E. Merrill, Jr who founded her high school and personally encouraged her to attend Spelman College as the first student in the school’s history to attend an HBCU. Being a first generation college student is a very importance aspect of Mimi’s identity and she was honored to be selected as a Cocoa-Cola First Generation Scholar in recognition of her academic achievements. Serving as this past academic year's Community Service Coordinator for A.C.T.S has been one of Mimi’s most rewarding responsibilities. Her vision was to bring more consistency to the ormost rewarding responsibilities. Her vision was to bring more consistency to the organization and with that vision she partnered up with the Fulton County Juvenile Center to adopt a mentoring/tutoring program for the boys in the system. Men of Morehouse are encouraged to volunteer every Saturday and make an impact. Holding the position of Secretary for Spelman's gay-straight alliance, Afrekete, has been a great way for Mimi to show her support as an ally of the LGBT community. The organization serves to raise awareness of the black LGBT community and to make Spelman a more inclusive environment. She applapplauds the organization for their hard work and dedication in successfully bringing the NO H8 campaign photo shoot to the AUC this past fall. Aside from her accomplishments on and off campus, Mimi holds an interest in a career where she can help to promote freedom and equality in regions of the world where they are lacking. She ultimately wants to become a Foreign Service Officer at the U.S. Department of State. Niya HogansNiya Hogans is a Mass Media Arts major at Clark Atlanta University apart of the Isabella T. Jenkins Honors Program. She was born in Newark, NJ and moved to Durham, North Carolina in the year of 2000. In the 5th grade she played Dorthy in the elementary school play production and from that moment she knew that she wanted a career in the television industry . Since her first break into the spotlight, Niya Hogans has continued to chase her dreams of working in the film industry . She has been a featured extra in different music videos, BET television shows such as "Being Mary Jane", & "The Game ". She also had a feature role in a independent film called "It's not m feature role in a independent film called "It's not me, it's you" where she worked a long side big time actresses such as Vivica Fox. However Niya doesn't only want to be infront of the camera or in the spot light, she also has a passion for production and writing. She has worked on different production sets as an intern where she has learned the skills of producing and directing. Niya is currently working on producing a short film starring some pretty big name stars in the entertainment industry, that she plans to have completed by March, 2014. Chicago-native, Tayler Ulmer, is a sophomore double major at Spel-man College. At Spelman, she stu-dies Anthropology, Sociology, and International Studies. Jainabou Barry is a sophomore Mathematics and Bio-medical Engineering major and Public Health minor at Spelman College from The Gambia who re-sides in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. . Jainabou's passion for service led her to founding For My Sister, a non-profit dedicated to enhancing global sisterhood through educa-tion, mentorship, and service with the motto "I am her and she is me". Last summer, Jainabou went to The Gambia to mentor young girlsThe Gambia to mentor young girls while conducting a malaria preve-ntion program. This summer, along with Bria Henderson, Maya Prent-iss, Angel Gray, Keji Omotoso, and Danielle Gators, Jainabou will be traveling to Nigeria to mentor young girls while conductingyoung girls while conducting service projects centered around female health and wellness.
