Baseball PEI, in consultation
with its member associations
at the 2018 Fall Forum in Oc-
tober, will be introducing time
limits for all regular season
and exhibition games at the
“AA” and “A” level—
excluding 18U “AA” - in
2019.
Once a game has reached the
105-minute mark, if it’s not
completed, no new innings
can be started after that point.
The inning the game is in at
the 105-minute mark will be
the final one played.
As well, at these levels, if the
game is tied after seven in-
nings (six in 11U), extra in-
nings will not be played and
the game will end in a tie.
“One of the reasons the Board
of Directors and the associa-
tions at the Fall Forum felt
bringing in a time limit was
important was that it gave
parents an idea of how long
they will be at the field. While
baseball is the sport without a
clock, the reality is many fam-
ilies now are very busy. The
fact they will know approxi-
mately how long they will be
at the field will make things
easier for them, plus maybe
attract a few more new play-
ers,” says Randy Byrne, E.D.
of Baseball PEI.
“Plus, it will likely have the
by-product of getting teams to
hustle more and get games
moving more quickly. People
will want to finish their game
prior to the 105-minute mark,
so coaches will have to be
more organized prior to and
during the game and players
will have to hustle on-and-off
the field. This has been an
area of concern over the past
couple of years.”
— in order for them to renew
their Certified status, they will
have to earn the necessary
P.D. points for their level to
be renewed at the “Certified”
status. It will no longer be
necessary for those coaches to
have games and/or practices
evaluated again in order to
regain their “certified sta-
tus” (as was the case in 2017
and 2018).
Changes to Renewing
Certified Status
At the 2018 Baseball Canada
Fall Meetings in Ottawa, ON
in early November, the
Coaching Panel (which PEI
was represented by Desi
Doyle, Baseball NCCP LF)
decided that for coaches that
lost their NCCP certified sta-
tus — at the Regional, Provin-
cial and/or Comp-Dev levels
