1st BaseFirst basemen are assigned the number 3 in the scorebook.They are responsible for fielding balls in their area, as well as bunts.When there is a runner on first base, the first basemen must stand right next to the bag in case the pitcher throws over to try and pick the runner off.First basemen must be the cut-off man for right fielders and center fielders when a runner is going home, and the ball is in the outfield.
